It sounds like a condition known as reverse sneezing..It is common in that breed, and usually begins at about that age..
Doxies, and Poms, Pugs, Chihuahuas, Min Pins, and Yorkies also do this.
My vet handbook says it is treated with bronchial dilator meds.. It is a stiffening of the trachea rings, or in serious condition, a collapsed trachea....It is worse in hot weather, and when the dog is stressed, as with alot of visitors....One pug owner says it stops if he lifts his pug's hind legs! ,, in serious stage, it can be corrected with surgery.

If she had done this for some time, I would say she was having throat spasms which are easy to get rid of by just calmly relaxing the dog, but you say she just started this behavior, which means you had better take notice and get her checked out. She may have a tumor or some other obstruction in her throat, in any case new symptoms mean new problem. Get her checked out!

Chetco is most likely right, as usual... ;) Boston Terriers will sometimes do this as well. In milder cases, just comforting them and helping them to settle down a bit will help them get through it, too. Ask your vet about it and see what his/her suggestions are. They can help you determine the severity and decide how to treat it.

Coughing, especially at night, and most especially in Cavies can be a sign of heart failure, I would definitely take her to a vet and get her checked out.

Sounds like she is vomiting. My dog does this sometimes. Watch her diet and what she is licking off the floor/ground.
