When I took my now 33 mos old to his first dentist appt he loved it. he was 2 at the time and the pediatric dentists are Great!!!

NOt sure if your son like to brush his teeth or opens his mouth upon request.

Just don't sweat it...your son will be fine.. These Pediatric dentists make it fun for the child. You have to remember he isn't getting a shot, root canal...etc...lol. They are just going to give him some xrays and look in his mouth. While there is a cartoon playing on the t.v. as he is being examined.

Any questions you can email me.

As a health care worker, I can tell you PLEASE don't prepare your son !!! Parents have very good intentions when doing this but I can tell you that by the time we get the kids, the are a nervous wreck from apprehension. Just bring him in and your dentist and his staff will do the rest to put him at ease and explain what is going on.

I took my daughter at age 2. The dentists and hygienists are so well-trained to work with kids. They call flouride 'tooth vitamins', and let the child choose the flavor (strawberry, blueberry, bubblegum, etc). They also let her hold the suction so they can control it. Kids find it fun to move around in their mouth. She gets to wear cool sunglasses to block out the light. Of course, there are prizes/stickers at the end, plus a free toothbrush, toothpaste and floss. My daughter (who is 6 now) loves going to the dentist.

Take him with you when you go to get your teeth cleaned.Let him watch as your dentist works on you. This will help ease any fears he may have about going . It is also a good way to get him acquainted with the dentist.

Narcotics.

Seriously, play "Dentist" at home, so it isn't unnatural; use the recliner like the dentist chair, a lamp over it, etc., etc.

BTW, isn't that young for a dental visit? I don't remember taking my son till he was 5 (although, he didn't get his first tooth until 13 months, so...)

Rationalize, break down the dentist appointment into mechanical parts. The most primal human emotion is fear, and the oldest is fear of the unknown.
