I REALLY don't like my job, I've only been working there six weeks, but I'm afraid to give my two week notice. (Technically less than two weeks more like 11 days.) This is my first job, so I really don't know how. Do you just tell your boss, or what? Plus, when is the best time to tell my boss? I work at a fast food restaraunt, and I don't know if its tacky to come in at any random time and tell them. Do I give a reason. Advice anyone? Oh, and I plan on doing this tommorrow, if it matters.

Do it right before you leave for the day. Preferably on a Friday and right after payday. That way it gives them some time to accept it and it's not so awkward when you have to see them the next day. Do you already have another job set up or something? Why only 11 days notice? You really should give the full 2 weeks if possible so you can use them for a reference in the future if you need to and to give them time to find someone to replace you. If you do have another job planned, explain that you started looking around and they hired you but wanted you to start sooner than expected. Tell him you just got the news yesterday and you're really sorry. Help out in any way that you can, like offer to find someone to take your place if you know a brother or sister or friend that's looking for a job. Try to sound as professional as possible. Don't be mean about it or tell them that you hated working there. Tell them that you really appreciated them providing you with the job and you're sorry to leave (even if you're not).

Good luck.

Just tell the boss right out that you are officially giving your notice. If it is a fast food place they are used to a high turn over, and probably will be surprised that you bothered giving a notice at all. I used to work in retail and some people would just quit coming and we never heard from them again--not even to get their paycheck. I would tell them at the end of your shift, but don't be surprised...I know people who gave their notice at various jobs and were told not to come back.

Giving notice is a professional courtesy; they may just decide to let you go early, so be prepared. If the employer gets mad, you are making the right decision to leave, because he should not take your leaving personally; if you are a good worker, he may ask why you are leaving, and what, if anything, would make you stay. Either way, request an exit interview if possible, as it is always good to put these things down on record. Good luck!

Give the notice in writing. Tell them you would like to progress career wise and you don't feel like you can do it at their place. Don't go out blazing! Just be polite about everything you are doing no matter how much you hate the job. This way, if your new employer insists on calling them, they will have nothing but positive things to say about you.

Honestly, I wouldn't really bother. If this is your first job, you're not planning on using it as a reference for future jobs, and you really are miserable, just quit. Normally two weeks is expected and the right thing to do, but I doubt you'll be using this job on a resume (You've been there only two weeks, so to put it on a resume would be silly.).

Pull your manager aside at the end of your shift and let him/her know. You can submit your notice in writing as well as telling management. I wouldn't give a reason unless asked and then state you are leaving for personal reasons. They should have your final check on the payday after your last day or on your last day. Good luck.
