my uncle is worried his daughter might have an eating disorder but we just need her weight (and she's 17, so she's not gonna give it up). being 5'5" of medium build, how much would she weigh if she's wearing size 0 and 00 pants?

She's toooooooooo skinny. When I was 17 I was 5' 8 1/2" tall and weighed in at 125 lbs and wore a size 12. I am medium built, I practically had no boobs and use to give new meaning to stuffing my bra.

You need to set down with her and explain to her only dead people do not have meat on their bones. And that is what she will be if she does not eat properly. At this point even junk food might be a blessing!

Here is a guide. For optimal health, there is an index called BMI or body mass index. It is calculated by the following formula:

Your weight in Kilograms / Your height in Metre² = a value between 20 and 25.

For example if a person is 5'5", her height would convert to 1.65 metres. So even if she needs to have the minimal BMI of 20, she would need to be at least 55 kgs which would translate to 120 pounds.

While it is good to be slim, having a BMI of less than 20 leads to one feeling undernourished and weak. A BMI of more than 25 can lead to conditions like Diabetes, High blood pressure etc.

So, irrespective of weight and build, a good basic exercise regimen and healthy eating habits would do good for everybody.

Forget the guess work and what other people think. Medical science has determined a "normal" weight to height ratio, called the BMI (Body Mass Index). You can find this mentioned in many articles about health, but it is seldom defined.

BMI = weight in pounds x 703/height in inches (squared).

Based on this formula, the normal BMI is between 19.0 and 24.9. So, your cousin should not weigh less than 114 lbs.

BMI = 114 x 703/65/65
BMI = 18.97 (low border-line normal)

A BMI between 25 and 29.9 is overweight.
A BMI between 30 and 34.9 is obese.

Unfortunately, in the U.S., we have many people who you see everyday in stores with a BMI of 40.0 or more, which is "morbidly obese."

Your cousin, if she conforms to the life-expectancy at birth according to the life table for people born the same year as she was, can look forward to living 70 more years.

Being able to say, "I wear a size 0," versus being able to say, "I stay in the healthy-weight zone" is really insignificant if you look at the total amount of time that you'll be alive.

My sister is that height and size and she weighs about 95 lbs. She doesn't have an eating disorder or any problems she just a very quick metabolism. Her metabolism will eventually slow down and it will all catch up with her.

Definately less than 80 lbs. People that are size 2 are extremely tiny. I've seen woman that are 80lbs, and they aren't even a size 0.
