My mom is always rescuing the dogs that nobody else will take from the animal shelter. Now she has "rosey" a pitbull with her ears cut off so that she can fight other dogs.Rosey is the sweetest dog, probably 4 years old and was brought to the pounnd still lactating,no pups found though. She poops and pees all over the house when Mom leaves.Mom even got the carpet taken off the floor and had her wood floor refinished in hope that Rosie wouldn't be "marking a spot".Any suggestions for getting Rosie in line with a loving home would be greatly appriecated. She's was a very abused dog and my mom loves her very much.

This may sound silly but it worked for us when we rescued an abused spaniel. get a doggy diaper. and every time the dog eats or drinks take the diaper off and go outside. pretty soon they get the idea to go outside to potty. Good luck

If this dog was raised to fight, then it was brutally abused. Physical discipline of any sort is useless unless you are willing to beat the thing half to death with a crowbar! (Even then the results will be questionable to say the least.)

This is still a dog and dogs have evolved to be members of the pack, YOUR pack. The most important thing in the Universe for ANY dog is the acceptance of the pack. They actually really want to do exactly what YOU want them to do, they just don't know HOW!

Really LOOK at a dog's brain pan, its NOT that big! They are NOT the sharpest tools in the shed! You really need patience to train a dog, you need much more patience to train an previously ABUSED dog. That being said, understand that you will ALWAYS have the dog's complete willingness and co-operation! AS FAR AS HE CAN GIVE IT!

No matter how much you love the dog, he is a "dumb-*ss" he has a small brain, you need to show a LOT of love and patience! You will win through if you NEVER forget that the dog actually WANTS to figure out just what you want him to do, and do it!

Keep showing him what it is you want and really reward him, especially with love when he does well and I'm sure you will get it down in the end!

If the dog knows it has learned how to please you, it will learn much faster in the future!

This can be very difficult with an older dog. I am no expert, and listen to almost anyone else first, but some basics: remember that dogs are by nature pack animals, and the thing to do is make them realize that they are now part of THIS pack, with owner (your mom I suppose) as pack leader. The dog must not win any contests: in a tug-of-war, you win; going through doors, you first; at meal-time you eat, then the dog. Nothing cruel here, just re-inforcing who is in charge, the pack leader. You have to associate peeing/pooping with outdoors. Point out the stain or pile (ick, sorry) and get dog outside. Be angry, but no abuse. Dogs know angry and don't like it.

For one, just because her ears are cropped doesn't mean that it was done for her to fight or does she have battle scars? First, if your mom wouldn't leave her inside when she leaves the dog wouldn't go potty in the house. To get her to stop "going" in the house she needs to constantly ask her if she needs to go potty or outside. I hate the fact that people abuse dogs when all dogs want is to be loved and appreciated. I would take her but my mom would have a cow. She about flipped out when I told her that I just bought a papered pit puppy. I know have 2 pits

Someone needs to spend two weeks straight with the dog. If there is always someone there to address the situation when it occures the dog will learn it by habit. It usually takes about two weeks and a lot of paying attention.

Might want to consider leaving the dog outside when no one is home.
