If you intend to go to college at all, do it as soon after high school as you can - before you ever enter the work force or start making your way in life. It's all fine and good to insist you'd rather see a bit of the world first, or get some life experience first, or that you're sick to death of having been in school for so many years already and you want a break - the fact is, going back to school after that break will be the hardest thing you ever do, and will likely never happen at all, no matter how well intentioned you are.
Once you start earning a paycheck and supporting yourself, no matter how meagerly, no amount of scholarships or grants will ever make up for earning your own money and spending it the way you choose. You'll keep putting off going back to school because you just "can't afford it right now."
Life experience comes with bills due and payable. Get the education first so that you can better afford to have those bills and your fun at the same time. Even if your parents are footing the bills for your 'break,' life will throw its own complications at you - all unexpected and usually designed to ruin the best intentions about college.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but I've been there and done that. Do yourself a major favor and finish school while it is still relatively easy to see it accomplished.

The peace corps will be difficult. Seems people are joining right out of collage. GIVE IT A SHOT! The slogan for them is It's the toughest job you will ever love. The Army is a very good way to start. You will learn so much about yourself and grow beyond anything you could imagine. Remember they have many jobs so you will not have to be in the field if you don't want to and you will not have to go to the middle east. You could end up in Germany, Hawaii.... Not only that they will help pay for collage during or after. They paid off a huge portion of my student loans. Check out both and see what interest you the most. Both are great choices!!!

You can't join the peace corps without a college degree last I checked. And if you can, it's backbreaking work. I would recommend a road trip across the country that you live in. Go with a friend and enjoy your time. Meet other people and try things you haven't before. Do everything you've always wanted to do.
Once you get that out of your system, run, don't walk, to the college of your choice and get a degree.

Joining the military will definitely achieve your dream to see other countries and learning different culture. But, the commitment to serve your country is very important. There are other careers that will bring you to overseas like taking up education and apply overseas.

I think that college really is the ideal thing to do after highschool. You could take a course on cultures or tourism or something like that. when you finish college, that's the time you go overseas and see the world...
