Your question is the standard question, 'There are no atheists in a foxhole', and, ironically, actually SUPPORTS the whole idea behind atheism: that the mind, when confronted with something it can't handle, will manufacture a mechanism (called 'God') to handle that trouble. That's one way of looking at it. Ironically, this made-up god would be the same made-up, ego-based god that is worshipped in most religions. On the other hand, when the 'self' (body, personality) is rightly perceived as not being the bedrock of safety that we think it is (when a crisis brings us to our comfort limits and our individuality can no longer help us), we're left with a surrendering of the self and the result can be an opening up to the real God. This God is the REAL God - the one of Love and the one that has no concept of hell, sin, guilt, judgment. It's the opposite of the false god that is worshipped in most religions.

Please open your mind, before trying to talk to anybody with a different opinion. You are not the owner of the truth, which is a good thing, too. If you were, you'd alter it at your convenience, and call everybody a liar, if we tried to change it back to what it was like originally.

I don't. I've dealt with the death of loved ones as an atheist and never once even considered crying out to god.

Unlike Christians, who yearn for someone else (God) to solve their problems for them, I take responsibility for mine and work my way out of them. There is no God to call out to. I do not understand why you think we need belief in a magical skydaddy in order to be truthful or to find solutions to problems. Christians are no better than anyone else, they have the same problems as other people, they commit crimes, they curse, lie, cheat, steal, and masturbate to Internet porn. Would you be offended if I said there was no truth in them?
