Black boxes are colored orange, and probably the color "safety orange." Why is that color the best choice for visibility? Why not something yellow. This question goes for other items that are painted "safety orange."

"Safety orange" is from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safety_orange

Also called blaze orange, vivid orange, Caltrans orange, Omaha orange, or sometimes International orange.

I'ts a standardized color, by international agreement through the ICAO, the International Civil Aviation Organization. That color was chosen because it is easily recognizeable, and all accident investigators are familiar with it.

I don't know how you have come up with safety orange, I have worked in enough factories and it is always yellow , but yes it is for the most brightest visual, they stand out

International orange is standard.

I picked it. I though it was the prettiest. When you're poking around the wreckage of a plane crash, it's nice to see something that looks pretty.
