Do you know any good ways to get a cat in a carrier. I'm supposed to take my cat to the vet this month to get booster vaccinations and a rabies vaccine but i couldnt get my cat in the carrier or the box. He's so strong; we wrestled for me to try to put him in there but not literally - there was no animal cruelty. It was hard and i even tried to get him by the scruff of the neck but that didnt work because he's so strong. It was bananas. But it must be done so i'll have to get him into the cage somehow. And it's not like he's feral and i'm trying to catch him for the first time. I think i'll get him when he's asleep.

Any suggestions for getting my cat into a carrier please...

You might get your vet to give a sedative which you can administer with the cat's food before you attempt to put the cat in the carrier.
Barring that, remember clean bandages and firm pressure should stop most of your bleeding.

I've had the same problem. I took my cat && wrapped her in a little towel makin sure her legs couldnt get loose by holdin the ends together until i got her in the carrier. I faced the door to it towards the ceilin and set her down in there, closed the door a little && grabbed the towel. Once i set the carrier down right i put a few treats in there. Be sure to take the towel with you && some treats for when you have to put the cat back in the carrier.

turn the crate so the door is up ,scruff the cat , grab both hind legs in the other hand and stretch the cat out, as much as the cat will stretch.have someone else hold the crate steady and put the cat in head first, let go of the cat and get your hands out of the way fast so the other person can close the door. If this doesn't work put the cat in a pillow case tie the end then put the cat in the crate.

You gotta be quick. Also, if you are using a carrier that opens on the side, have you tried placing it so the door is aimed to the ceiling, and basically dropping the cat through the hatch...well, not literally dropping, but shoving and directing. You won't hurt the cat...just be more aggressive. The vet is important, so you gotta do it!

what i usually do is put the carrier out in the living room or something a couple days ahead of time with the door open so the cats can get used to going in and out of it... maybe put some treats in there. that way by the time the big day comes it won't seem so new and frightning to the cat.

Leave it on the floor for a day with the door open so he can walk by it. And then when it's time to take him to the vet just pretend like your are just walking by and grab him and shove him in there. If you had a top loading carrier that would make it easier too.

put the carrier so that the opening is facing up. lower the cat into the carrier watching that his/her cloaws are not grabbng onto the sides too quickly. close door quiclkly.

some people grab them and shove them in head first but this never works for me

i went out and purchased a soft sider one that you actually put them in and then zipper them. sooooo much easier. only about 30 bucks. wouldnt want to use it for flying but great for trips to the vet etc.

Put your carrier so that the opening is on the top (needs to be vertical instead of horizontal). Then when your cat is in another room grab him and shield his eyes from the carrier (in the other room). Then grab his scruff and lower him into the carrier. It works every time!

Try cat treats!! If you try to get the cat while he's sleeping...he'll still wake up!LOL:) If the treats don't work, try a fave toy or even a nip of catnip. That's how my friend gets EVERY ONE OF HER 17 cats into their carriers....treats, toys, or catnip.
One more thing you might try is to call your vet for a mild tranquilizer to give the feline BEFORE the transfer to the cage and the trip to the vet.

try putting something that the cat really likes in the cage an pay attention an see if it goes in if so hurry and close it! Also if you grab the cat just right by its neck it will paralize it long enough to get it into the cage but if i was you id wear gloves for when you have to let go just in case
