I do believe that no where in the bible does God say, "I HATE HOMOSEXUALS."

But in Malachi 2:16, it specifically says "For God hates divorce."

So my question to the Christians who have waged a war against homosexuality, why is it that you do not wage a war against an abomination to your god that so many people within your belief system commit?

By the defense that homosexuality is against God and bad for society, shouldn't we outlaw divorce?

I under stand that "everyone is a sinner" But that does not explain why the Christian right has only waged a war against homosexuals and not against something God specifically said he hated.

I don't hate homosexuality. I hate homosexuals.
I'm just kidding.

The thing is, Homosexuality is NOT outlawed. Not by secular law anyway. Neither is divorce. Nor should they be.

But the Church has her own ways... and they are the ways of God. The Church calls the acts of both sodomy and of divorce what they are:sin. But like all sins they may be forgiven if repented of.

That doesn't sound so hateful, does it?

If we start outlawing all sin, all of us will end up in the slammer.

So what sins should be illegal, and which should be tolerated? I don't think that the government should get its hands dirty with policing either divorce or homosexuality.

That DOESN'T mean that either should be viewed by society as an accepted practice. It's clear, as you indicate, that God regards divorce as grave sin except in specific circumstances. (Note that Jesus, in his ministry, did not accept these exceptions to the rule against divorce.) Homosexuality, however, is also condemned in both ancient Jewish culture and by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament. Indeed, God only accepts one kind of sexual relationship - and divorcees and homosexuals alike violate that principle.

Religious groups have always used their "beliefs" to justify their "prejudices". Christianity is no different.

Most people who are waging war against homosexuals probably don't actually have any close friends that are gay, yet they likely do have close friends or family who are divorced.

It's easier to condemn some hypothetical person with no name than it is to condemn people you are very close to and love.

I'm gay, and my mother was a very outspoken anti-gay person in our household. When I came out, I feared that I would be dis-owned or that I would hear my mother say she hates me. She cried when I told her, and we talked for a bit about the Bible. Since the day I came out, she's not said a cross thing about homosexuality.

She isn't a PFLAG Mom, but she does love me, and has accepted me for who I am and who God made me.

People believe in ego-based interpretations of things that are written down and made as if they're the divine word of God. THe OT has anti-homosexuaity in it in the same area it has that wearing clothing of 2 different weaves is a sin. The NT ant-gay areas were written by Saul of Tarsus (Paul) - someone who was raised in an anti-gay, homophobic culture and who never saw Jesus. The NT itself represents a set of writings that reflected the most popular (not necessarily the most accurate) interpretation of Jesus' message. People don't want the real message of Unconditional Love and so they change it into an ego-preserving message of judgment and reward.

Good point. I have nothing against homosexuals - but I'm not Christan either.

Dint give those bible thumpers a second's thought. Go on being you.

If you believe in god, then believe he did not make a mistake when he made gay people.

I'm all for it.

Christians or any other fanatic from any other religion - GET OVER IT.

I hate divorce. I hate lies. I hate stealing. I hate smoking. I hate homosexuality. BUT--I don't hate any person for their behavior because I know that ALL sinfulness is a result of either Adam and Eve and our inheritance from them or the fact that we are personally deceived by Satan into believing these things are OK.

I'm completely with you on the gay/divorce argument. I've used it myself more than once. If you delve into the backgrounds of more than a few republicans backing anti-gay marriage laws you'll find out they've had divorces themselves!

However in the bible sodomy was referred to as "an abomination".

I agree with your premise. God also has bad things to say about being in debt, but almost all Christians are in debt in some fashion.

stop lumping us all together---
I am a Christian and a health care worker --- I have cared for AIDS/HIV patients - many of them are homosexuals --- so was one of my closest friends --- whom I took care of in his home that he shared with his boyfriend.... they had tons of friends (most of them are homosexual) and guess what - they got out of his life - even his lover turned away and found a new partner. Me and a wonderful lady who lived near him came over to help me care for him--- be careful how you talk about somebody - they may be the only one(s) who'll be there for you when your friends/lover leaves you---
