I have always wondered why the 120V plug's prong have holes on the tip? What are they for?

There is a spring clip in the outlet. The clip closes down on the hole and retains the plug in the outlet.

i does not advise changing a three prong to a 2 prong relatively to run an air conditioner...those are frequently rated at a much extra useful amperage and such. is that this a smaller window unit? playstation ...do now no longer use an extension twine with this a/c the two!!

It is an indentation that makes the plug stop.

May be it's to snap-lock the connectors for a more secure hold.
