Sorry, I guess I'm coming from a different angle....why is a Virgin Birth a hang up at all? I suppose the question is moot.
If you believe that a being exists who is powerful enough to perform miracles like creating the universe, "Virgin Birth" is no big deal.
If you don't, then it really doesn't matter.....
Thanks for helping me clarify this for my own benefit.

The term "virgin" birth is wrong. The origianl scriptures used the word for "pure" not virgin. You might ask what the difference is. When the term "pure" had been used to refer to Mary (pbuh), it didn't mean she was a virgin, but rather than she was a child. Christians scholars now agree that Mary was around 12-13 when she gave birth to Jesus.
Now as for your question, it's not hard to believe in virgin births in today's society, because of the advances in technology. Back then, becoming pregnant without a father figure to raise the child was equavalent to being a "whore," so many found it hard to believe that Mary had become pregnant without a man to inseminate her.

Well first off, were you ever told the story of where babies come from? Then actually learned the real truth much later? Humans produce sexually, end of story. Second there is a link for artificial insemination below, wiki doesn't give an exact date but it states Artificial insemination was attempted in the 1400s, when was Jesus born, before that? Third, its not clear what is meant by virgin, ever notice today how some girls say oh yea, I'm a total virgin, then suck a guy off, and stick the 9 inch up the ***? Mary could have been raped, or she could have been retarded and loved playing with splooge and just stuck some up her *****, never the less, does anyone have any proof AT ALL that she was or was not a virgin? And how can you prove that someone is a virgin now? You can't.
And remember, if Mary was raped, I could be wrong here, but didn't the romans hate trojans?

While an artificial or non-intercourse related pregnancy is highly unlikely, I wouldn't rule it out as an impossibility. But the concern over whether Mary was a virgin isn't of much significance ... the question should be, "did an unseen all-knowing, all-powerful diety impregnate Mary".
In the Greek mythos there are often tales of gods intermingling sexually with humans ... and, on occasion, a child would result from the pairing. Is it fair for Christians to dismiss these stories as fictional even though they believe in an equivalent event?

I can't see where whether or not Jesus was a virgin birth makes any bit of difference to his message.
Do the ideas and philosophies that he espoused somehow become less valid if it turns out that his parents had sex?
To me, his words and message are actually more powerful if he was a mortal man, with no divinity beyond what is possessed by every man, woman and child in the world. Or at least what they could possess if they wanted to. To me, that's Jesus' real message, his real sacrifice, that he would 'die for our sins' without resurrection, without transubstantiation, just because it was what he needed to do as a man. That man could become divine himself if he only tried being nice to one another for a change.
But apparently, that's just me.

Because the Immaculate Conception was that of God not of man. Also, she was a virgin when she gave birth, now for a woman to get pregnant, the little lining (hymen..) on the inside is "popped" to allow the conception to start...don't make me go into detail....but anyway...God did this from the inside.

I believe...God at his word...and if He is creator of all why would it be so hard to understand and believe a virgin birth...and it's purpose...which is to have a untainted blood line...corrupt with sin flowing through the veins of two people..converging to create another corrupt bloodline...God had/has a purpose for the virgin birth...you just need to by faith believe Gods purpose...God bless

Artificial insemination didn't exist in the aramaic desert.
"Virgin" is a term that was used in those times to mean "an unmarried woman."

ummm. I'm not seeing the correlation......
The birth of Jesus was over 2000 years ago......we can't even preform artificial insemination on everyone with our technology now.
