A friend of mine has a 5 week old golden lab and she was wanting to know how long she should wait before she starts training it things like sit, stay, heel, roll over, and the like. I have found information on crate training and housebreaking but not much that discusses anything else.

8 weeks for sit stay etc. 3 weeks i litter trained to the news paper by simply placing their bedding at one end of the whelping box and news paper at the other. between 2-3 weeks they began wobbling over to the other side of the box to "go" so by the time they were weened they were paper trained. then i slowly day by day moved the papers closer to the doggie door then at 8 weeks placed them(the newspapers) out on the lawn and the whole litter was house trained at 8 weeks .:)

Sound like you are doing ok. You do not need her to suppose of the crate as punishment however a dependable haven. Let her out as so much as that you could. You could leash her to you while you're dwelling so you could preserve a detailed eye on her. Her bladder is SMALL and she will have to exit to pee at the least each hour. Or Put her in a position she will more around and have some paper to use and it is going to even be convenient so that you can smooth up. It is imortant at her age for you to handle her everywhere her physique. Ears, mouth, legs tail, tummy and execially the pads on her feed. This makes her a just right citizen and he or she will probably be higher at the vets when she goes for her pictures and the brain connections are better and she shall be smarter when she grown up.

at 5 weeks this puppy should still be with their mother unless the mother is dead. But the younger they are the easier it is to teach them obedience. If your friend wants to learn how to train her puppy pay for a basic obedience class. Then if she ever gets a new dog she will know the correct way to train a puppy.

you start training them as son as you get them home. Isn't house training , training? Just keep adding new things slowly, don't overload with to many things at once teach one thing at a time when he has it down add a new one.

Tell her to start doing it now. The dog may not respond for awhile but when it does it'll be trained!

You can start as early as 6 weeks. Starting earlier isn't good for the puppy's health and development.
