Thank you for the answers. Lol. I like the answers about "it will never be enough." Our church is blessed from around our area. Our busses were given to us so we could bus in kids for our childrens ministry. We give to the church, yes, but GOD gives us our needs. Our pastor doesn't ask for extra, and we are very blessed. Thanks for the answers again. I appreciate them. Now, Maybe I'll be able to show my mom :P

On a personal note, GOOD JOB. I did not start giving tithe as soon as I started making money and now I really struggel with doing so, which I'm sure it is why I have so much trouble with being fincial secure.

I'll paste my answer from that post.

There are no new Testament scriptures that say exactly how much to give.
In the old testament God commanded the Israelites to give 10% Twice.

Leviticus 27:30 "A tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain or fruit, belongs to the LORD and must be set apart to him as holy. "

Deuteronomy 14:22 -27
"You must set aside a tithe of your crops – one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year. Bring this tithe to the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored, and eat it there in his presence. This applies to your tithes of grain, new wine, olive oil, and the firstborn males of your flocks and herds. The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to fear the LORD your God. Now the place the LORD your God chooses for his name to be honored might be a long way from your home. If so, you may sell the tithe portion of your crops and herds and take the money to the place the LORD your God chooses. When you arrive, use the money to buy anything you want – an ox, a sheep, some wine, or beer. Then feast there in the presence of the LORD your God and celebrate with your household. And do not forget the Levites in your community, for they have no inheritance as you do

However in the New Testament Paul writes to the Corinthians
2 Corinthians 9:7
"You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don't give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully. "

Based on these scriptures ( there are others but they say about the same thing.) it seems for us now days, the amount you Tithing a personal thing. What's important is to keep in mind the purpose of tithing

Remember
Deuteronomy 14:23

Says "The purpose of tithing is to teach you always to fear the LORD your God. "

1 Corinthians 16:2 says " God wants us to give in order to take care of the poor."

1 Timothy 5:17 -18 Says,
"Elders who do their work well should be paid well, especially those who work hard at both preaching and teaching. For the Scripture says, " Do not keep an ox from eation as it treads out the grain" and in another place, "Those who work deserve their Pay!"

The need to support the spiritual leaders of the church financially has not changed from the old to the new testament."

Hope this helps.

This is something America tends to struggle with more then other countries. This number is taken from the Old testament, and out of context. When the Hebrews tithed it was more like 19-39%. In the new testament the people gave everything extra they had to further the Gospel. This number is probably derived from a passage in numbers.
Numbers 28:21-29:15. Imagine American churches giving everything extra they had...HAHAHA

also the literal meaning of tithe

Ge 14:20 And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him TITHEs of all

Ne 10:38 And the priest the son of Aaron shall be with the Levites, when the Levites take TITHEs: and the Levites shall bring up the TITHE of the TITHEs unto the house of our God, to the chambers, into the treasure house.

Heb 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take TITHEs of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:

You won't find 10%, but the word tithe means to give a tenth.

Its in Malachi 3:10 - Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].

Tithe means 10%.

The word tithe does indeed mean one-tenth. It is mentioned twenty-eight times in the old testament, and seven times in the new testament.

The first is Genesis 14:18-20 "And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he [was] the priest of the most high God. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed [be] Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he[Abraham] gave him tithes of all."

This tithe was not part of Mosiac law, and seems to be something that Abraham did spontaneously to give thanks to god.

In Genesis 28:20-22 Jacob offers a similar spontaneous tithe in thanks.

The requirement to give a tithe appears later in the old testament (Lev.27:30-34; Deut.12:6,11; 14:22; Heb.7:5), and the new testament requires giving, but does not specify an amount (Matt.22:21; Mk.12:17; Lk.6:38; 20:25; 2 Corin.9:7).

So if you want to give a tithe in thanks for your good fortune, I think that's excellent, but it shouldn't be required for everyone. Personally, I think a tithe freely given shows more thankfulness than one commanded.

Tithe means 10%. But did you know that He also wants you to give 10% of everything you have? Like, your time? Sometimes other things are just as important as money. If we all gave 10% of our time to tell others about Jesus there would be a lot less people dying and going to Hell. Hang in there and stick to your beliefs.

God made the covenant with Abram( that was his name before it was changed to Abraham). Genesis 14:20. The first mention of tithing in the Bible. Abram was grateful to God for delivering his nephew Lot from Sodom and Gomorrah, that he felt compelled to give God a tenth of his wealth to God's representative, Melchizedek.

It is in the bible somewhere in the Old Testament (I forget where, though), but once you start giving 10%, that won't be enough. Your church will hound you to give more for overseas missionary work, the new piano in the Sunday school room, the new set of hymn books, this, that and anything else they can think of. In other words, you won't be able to give enough to please them.

Charity starts at home. Keep your money there.
