There are many prophetical statements narrated by most Muslim scholars (Bukhary, Muslim Tarmazy, Abu Dawood... etc) that all tell that yawning is the act of the devil and people should NOT yawn because the devil enters their mouth when they do that. It also says that god hates yawning and loves sneezing!

I am a little surprised. I think that there are similar statements in the bible (probably prophet Muhammed had that wrong idea about yawning from the bible). However, modern science says that yawning is just a physilogical act and the devil has nothing to do with that. Why should god hate yawning and love sneezing?

christians used to think that sneezing was the person expelling evil from their body, thus the wish "God bless you"

but who cares about the myths from 2000 years ago, anyway?

yawning is an indication of a person's lack of oxygen in his blood system, most often experienced when one lacks sleep. however, even with enough rest, yawning seems to be an action which is contagious, which is not, but due to atmospheric change in our surrondings, oxygen level changes in quality thus when we see or experienced yawning, we see several others yawn simultaneously. If that oxygen is low in a prolong time, it can affect our health, which is therefore related to the works of the devil or having our immune system low to fight diseases from the atmosphere.
Sneezing is an involuntary action by our body to force out something that irritates or obstruct our resperatory system which is the nose so we can breath properly.
The prophet (peace be upon him ) teach us to cover slightly our mouth with the right hand and preferably with some cloth when yawning or sneezing and not face another human or animal.

Yawning is an indicator of sleepiness, laziness, and lack of interest and Islam loves work and action. Sneezing is an indicator of activity and don't occur while we are sleeping so we say after it Al-Hamdu le Allah and God loves that.
