He was baptized to fill His role in the priesthood according to Melchizedek. He had no sin to wash away. He did it, according to His own words, "To fulfill all righteousness." (Matthew 3:15)
Next, allow me to say that those who believe that if Jesus possessed "original sin," then He is not your Savior, and He cannot expiate your sins. To say that Jesus was an ordinary man, and had sin in Him is blasphemy. This goes against everything that the Bible teaches.
Jesus is God in the flesh. He claimed that for Himself a number of times. Here's a few examples: Matthew 14:27, Mark 6:50, Mark 13:6, Luke 21:8, John 4:26, John 6:20, John 8:24, 28, 58, and John 13:19. (Some translations will show the Greek for "I AM" to be translated in the English "It is I," or "I am He," and doesn't accurately reflect was was really being said.)
As God, He cannot possess sin. This is because God is holy. Paul mentions that the first Adam brought condemnation to the world, and that the second Adam (Jesus) brought salvation. What is the difference? Jesus never sinned. "For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also came through a man. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ will all be made alive." (I Corinthians 15:22)
And
"The first man came from the dust of the earth; the second man came from heaven." (I Corinthians 15:47)

A question for you: Are you Catholic?
Jesus was baptized as a symbol that he was creating the first Christian church and that we all should join a Christian church to 1) show our belief, 2) to be with other Christians, and 3) because Jesus did. Baptism doesn't wash away sins; that's Jesus's job (the blood and everything?). Salvation comes before baptism anyway; baptism's a symbol to show that we're a part of the Christian church. You aren't saved if you're only baptized.

Baptism does NOT wash away sin.
Jesus death on the cross washed away sins (past, present, and future).
Baptism is a symbol to others that you identify with Christ in his burial (going down into the water) and Resurrection (coming out of the water) to be a new creation.
Jesus was baptized as an example for us.

I think baptism more like gave you the recognition to have your sins forgiven. Lots of laws and rules that basically no one could live up to. That was the point. All were unworthy under that method.
Jesus lived under this. It wasn't until His death that the new covenant began. His death was the baptism of the world. One world ended and a new one began.
But this baptism did more than give us a chance. It fulfilled law, took the punishment for the sins of the world from beginning to end. This was Jesus and God's decision and we weren't involved in it. There is nothing we can do to alter the covenant.

As a Baptist, I don't believe that baptism washes away sin.
Rather, baptism is one of two ordinances introduced by Christ himself (the other being Communion) that we observe and practice today in obedience to Christ's example and to proclaim ourselves as disciples of Christ and as participants in his Body on Earth - i.e., the Church.
I don't believe that you have to be baptized to be cleansed of your sins. I do, however, believe that many people who have been baptized are still dead in their sins. What matters most to God is not the outward act but the inner change.

His whole point was that he was just a man because he was born of man (a woman) and he had his cousin John baptize him because, as a man, he was still capable of human weakness and therefore sin... also he was born of man, so born with original sin from back in the day of Adam and Eve.

The Bible plainly explains this:
Matthew 3:15
15Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." Then John consented.

Jesus was Baptized to mark the start of His Ministry and show us what we are supposed to do. Even though He was not a sinner, He celebrated the Jewish holidays also which were always followed an atonement sacrifice. He taught us by example, we wouldnt want Him to say "Do as I say, not as I do" would we?

Jesus tried to be our example. Baptism was act of obedience for Him and us. You should be saved before getting baptised. It is kind of like a marriage ceremony, making a public statement so to speak in front of the world, that you are saved.
