Lot's of Americans really have no idea. I posted a similar questions a month back and to my surprise received some very apologetic answers that I assume came from folks that ranted like bigots or morons when they found a question written in broken English.
It's good that you put the question up. If these types of inquiries arise on a regular basis those that are native English speakers won't be so inclined to spew out asinine and hateful answers.
They may even be humbled by the fact that lots of folks have English as a second language, when most folks with English as their first, are still monolingual.

I don't assume that everyone is from the USA, but it would seem logical that if one is on the English speaking section that one at least speaks some English. I can tell from some of the questions and answers that not all are fluent in English, but they are at least trying. However, that doesn't give the answerer you mentioned any right to be insulting or abusive. If one can't at least be nice, then he or she shouldn't be on this website. That one should read the rules. He also doesn't know much about world culture because America, which includes two continents, is only partially English speaking. Also, it is important to note that there are several outher countries in which English is the National Language and quite a few others in which much of the population uses it as a second language. I would conclude with the observation that the answerer of whom you speak has demonstrated ignorance on a number of levels.

Hmmm... I just stumbled across your question... not sure why... I normally don't come to the Languages section... but...
it seems to me...I could be wrong... that I read someplace that questions must be asked in English.
or... to quote the Community Guidelines (link to left when answering a question):
USE ENGLISH ONLY: Please do not use other languages or symbols. Also, spelling and grammar count! Be sure to check your spelling and grammar, as content that is unreadable due to excessive typos may also be deleted.
but then again.. some people don't like foriegn languages... they get intimidated when people talk and they don't understand ANY portion of it...
and... some people don't realize that the internet is international in nature... they don't see the 19 little flags down at the bottom of the browser window.

Not all people assume this, but there are people who do assume that everyone who is posting answers is from the USA. The reason for that is ignorance and stereotyping. While Yahoo! Answers is popular in the USA, it is done in other countries. Whoever thinks differently is obvioulsy ignorant.

Not for nothing, but there are several versions of Yahoo Answers that are country specific, and considering this particular one has a user majority that is from the U.S., it's natural to assume that the person posting is a U.S. citizen.Scroll down to the very bottom of your screen if you want to check for yourself.

I thought that the rules for Yahoo! Answers were that you must use English to Ask and Answer questions... I thought it a bit odd myself, but that was one of the rules I do believe. That kinda led me to believe that yahoo! answers was only avaliable for those who signed up for the US version of Yahoo!, as the other countries have slightly different addys, .ca for example. However, I don't think that anyone has the right to say something as you say that person said. Plus, it too is against the rules/.

Not that I care what language or where you post on here but.... there are little buttons on the bottom that you can pick which country. It would seem to make more sense to post in a country where more people can speak your language.

Too many americans don't see past their own country. The media doesn't help though, they rarely report on happenings outside the US. It's too bad, most americans are pretty cool but some are just ignorant
