Yes....you should have a tetanus shot. And by the way (for the moron who answered earlier)...Tetanus is NOT from rust and can be acquired from animal bites!! It is bacteria that is found in soil. Even gardeners can contract it. You should have a doctor look at your wound if it was deep. Also, iguanas can carry Salmonella!!!

You can get tetanus from an iguana bite. Tetanus is most often found in soil. The iguana itself may not carry it but whatever gets into that bite can infect it.
If you get bit so many times, a little tetanus shot shouldn't bother you.

By law, they have to report the bite. Your neighbors are really going around telling everyone you are "mean"? Seriously? What are they 5 years old? You shouldn't be mortified, they should be. You did nothing wrong. They need to grow up. @Cody~ No. You have that backwards. Dogs don't walk around with rabies. They have to have the disease in order to pass it on to another mammal. And, you would know if the dog was rabid. And @Sophie~ really? You can't be serious. Dog bites can and DO get infected. In addition, a current tetanus shot is always recommended to ANYONE who is bit by an animal. The poster didn't think she was going to get some weird disease. It's common sense. What point is getting medical care if you lie to your providers. Think with your brain. This person should avoid treatment and put themselves at risk because of someone elses badly behaved dog? I think not. My dog is 15 and she doesn't go around biting people. And if she did, I would WANT the person to go to the doctor and make sure they were okay.

If the skin has been broken, yes. You're due for another shot anyway, if you haven't had a booster since 1995.
I hate Iguanas. They're mean, easily rattled, unfriendly, and unsociable. I never did understand why people liked those things.

Tetnus shots are for blood poisining. And animal bite can cause that so yes you should be up to date if you've been bite by any animal..They say 10 years usually you shoul have one more frequently than that. My hubby lobsters and gets alot of infections due to the bait. His doc has him have one every 5 years and hes gotten blood poisining twice and had to have IV antibiotics.

Iggies carry salonella only if you dont keep their living space clean. but, bacteria is bacteria and should be taken seriously a whip from his tail can cause a bacteria infection too if it brakes skin. I and my grandkids get bit all the time
If you don't see a doc keep it very clean and watch for redness & swelling get to a doc the minute you see either of these
Also don't stop picking up your Ig because he will continue to bite just because he will know he gets away with it.
