Check the website out below, I've found it to be quite helpful.

Check your yellow pages for brewery supply shops. There's a lot of specialty equipment needed, but the folks in those shops should be able to guide you through it. If you live in a town of more than about 10,000 people, there's a homebrew shop somewhere. You can order the stuff online, but I'd wait until you've done it a few times. The shopkeepers are a wealth of information, and shouldn't have any problem assisting a first-timer. You don't often get that level of service online.

It's a bit too complicated of a procedure to go into here, but there's a good rundown at the links below. The first is short and sweet, the second is long but very thorough. What's really important to remember is that all of your equipment must be super-sanitary. Bacteria from the outside world can get into your beer, kill the yeast, and leave you with a big smelly bucket of germ water.

As for whats-his-face's admonition about drinking ethanol and going blind, I wouldn't worry about that. Methanol is only created in very small harmless quantities, unless you're distilling alcohol. But then you'd be making moonshine, not beer.

There are kits available. It is not hard. My uncle did it. I am sure you can purchase it online. One of my friends fermented honey into some nice alcohol thing. It was good. Look for books at the library or on amazon.

i would tell you but if you do it wrong (within 1 degree Fahrenheit) you will get methanol instead of ethanol and if you get methanol you could go blind for life. but don't worry, methanol only turns 25% blind, the other 75% of people will die. IT WILL DO ONE OR THE OTHER. my advice leave it up to the professionals.

well, it involves water, barley, hops (be careful, hops will kill dogs, if the eat them) there is some boiling and fermenting and straining. then some bottling adn such. not as long as winemaking but in the end you can get drunk... what could be better, I ask you?
