everyone can attain enlightenment but he or she must know how to differentiate between right and wrong and it is not easy at times. then after that, he or she must study every religions carefully and with the right attitude.
allah, buddha, jesus and so many gods in the heaven and beings in the hell will know about this person and if he or she has the compassion to save the world, maybe 1 day he or she may become an immortal.

Enlightenment will be different depending on which faith you study or follow. An "enlightened" prophet such as Moses, Jesus, or Muhammad had become enlightened through God's teaching. Buddah, the Dalhi Lama, and Ghandi have become enlightened through their own teachings. They all gave up material wealth of this world and focused on learning what makes people do what they do and how they can fix the wrongs of the world.
If you want to become enlightened become a theologian, like me and learn about the world's faith. It will surprise you just how much every faith in the world has in common with it's neighbor. Religion is also what dictates laws, morals, common ground, and culture in a society as well. Know about religion and you will know about the person.
Btw, don't read the Bible first. If you want a good book to read to start your quest for knowledge, then read the Epic of Gilgamesh. Then the Vedas, then the Torah (talmud), then about Buddhism, then the Bible, and then the Quran.

Get enlightenment is not just by chanting, reading books, going to temples or church to show your respect.
Get enlightenment has to start with ownself cultivation. How to do so? 1st start with the way you react to things, follow by your gestures and then the thinking of you.
No evil doing, No body harming, No craving, No greed, No wanting, No hoping, No wishing. All simply and you have to accept.
I have seen many people used to read books, chanting, etc, but still cant get enlightenment, why? cos they dont practise self-cultivation. Here you chant, show respect to Gods, but at other places, you scold people, harm people, drink, smoke and flirt. All these will contribute to body harming which is an aburdance to enlightenment.
If you wish to get enlighted, from today onwards, change your lifestyle abit, be more caring, sharing and consideration. You will find the difference without a few months.

You're likely going to get a lot of answers saying that you should read the bible for enlightenment. That's wrong.
What's the one tangible thing that God has given us? What's the one thing that he created that we can see, touch, taste, hear, witness, and measure?
The universe.
So why look in a book (that was written by men, no less) when you can explore the wonder of his creation? It is through science and reason that God becomes evident, not in the pages of a book full of fairy tales with talking snakes and boats full of animals.
Don't let the atheists fool you into believing that science disproves the existence of God. Quite the opposite, really. It brings you all the more closer to Him.
I'm reminded of a Rush lyric:
Truth is, after all, a moving target;
hairs to split and pieces that don't fit
How can anybody be enlightened?
Truth is, after all, so poorly lit.

Believe me, you can't attain enlightenment by reading Bible or any scripts. In life, there are many things we can't explain, but we don't need to understand all these inorder to live on! Enlightenment is just at the corner, but you could never find which corner...try understand your own life first.

Hi,
Enlightenment in the Buddhist sense, is to understand the very nature of all phenomena.
By following the Middle Path, of abandoning extreme, gaining wisdom and practicing compassion, one can attain enlightenment.
Hope you'll find your path to happiness.

You don't have to read just the Bible to "get your act together", as some "my way or the highway" dogmatists might suggest. There are many other spiritual and/or religious books that are just as good as the Bible. The important thing to remember is that none of them, including the Bible, stands alone. To get the proper perspective on things, you have to read and understand as many as you can.
Suggestions:
The Tao Ti Ching (Chinese "The Way")
The Tipitaka, Theravadin and Mahayana (Buddhist Scripture)
The Bhagavad Gita (Hindu Scripture)
Plato
The Five, Nine, and Thirteen Classics of Confucius
The Bible
Biblical Studies (Start with Richard Friedman's books)
That should get you started.
