Well, the temperature is hot right now, and all the summer fun has started! Be sure to bring:

*Sunscreen/suntan lotion
*shorts
*short sleeved/sleeveless shirts
*1 or 2 nice outfits to go out to the discos with or have a nice
night on the town with
*bathing suit
*sandels
*walking shoes
*money
*camera (plenty of film if not digital; extra memory & batteries if it
is digital)
*toiletries
*make-up (used at night because during the day it is very hot and
you will sweat it all off)
*travel adaptor (just in case)
*anything that you use to do your hair (make sure to pack at least
one clip to keep your hair up as the air is hot and humid and
your hair will get sticky against your neck)
*sunglasses
*small supply of various medicines in case you get sick
*hat

Make sure you keep a reasonable amount of money on you, and keep some statched away in your hotel room.

A lot of the hotels offer many fun activities, most for a minimal price.

This is on top of bringing your tavel documents (passport, ID, tickets).

Not sure where you're going to visit while in Africa, but be sure to see your doctor to get an anti-malarial medication. Check out the web site I posted below to see if the area you're visiting may have malaria cases. Better safe than sorry. You need to see your doctor 6 weeks prior to departure for the prescription. Ask him/her to provide you with the correct dosage of medicine for both prevention and treatment. Start taking the pills as prescribed by your doctor about 4 weeks prior to your trip.

Wear long pants and long-sleeved shirts when the mosquitoes are out. Use an insect repellant that contains DEET. Avon's Skin So Soft is pretty good.

Wear a moneybelt. Inside, keep your passport (leave a copy at home with your family or a friend), money, credit cards, important numbers/addresses. Operate with just a day's worth of spending cash in your wallet. That way, if you're pickpocketed, your trip won't be a disaster.

Bring enough underwear and socks to last your trip. I'm not sure how long you're going to be gone, but you can usually wear your clothes twice. You can always wash your clothes in the hotel sink or find a laundromat. Bring comfortable shoes. Regardless of where you're going...comfortable shoes and a moneybelt are the most important things. Wear your heaviest pair of shoes on the plane. Have at least two pairs of shoes...that way if you get caught in a rain storm or whatever, one pair can dry out while you wear another pair.

I'd leave the hair appliances and electronics at home (except an iPod and a camera). They take up valuable space in your luggage and you could be off exploring the beauty of Africa instead of drying your hair or something to that effect. Take lots of photos. Bring lots of film or memory cards.

Try to pack as light as possible. Before you pack your suitcase, inspect each item to see if you're really going to need it. If it's a maybe, leave it out. Bring bottled water for the plane ride, as well as snacks. I like the individually-packed Rice Krispie treats. Bring an umbrella and a jacket with a hood, just in case.

Obviously, check out the weather forecast before you leave to see what the weather will be like and pack accordingly.

Are you going on any safaris or anything like that? Some day I plan to make it to Africa. Have fun!

Over the counter meds, like tylenol and such. Also, get a hairdo that doesn't really require a lot of work. I used to take adaptors, but if you can just wash and shake, you save room and don't have to figure out how to plug in your stuff. Other than that, your basic toiletries, a rain poncho or small umbrella, mostly lighweight clothes. I like to go with hiking clothes because they're lighweight and easy to pack. Take a pillow case. It's a great personal feeling, and you can use it to separate things in your luggage if you want. Don't forget your passport and any traveler's checks you may have. That's most of it, beyond anything that you just can't live without.

i'm a planner and a catalogue maker so I commence early (we are talking 2 weeks right here) with a catalogue of each and every thing i choose. I hate forgetting issues so this makes particular I easily have each and every thing i choose. Then I %. beginning per week beforehand with each and every of the pieces i'm no longer going to be making use of in that next week and verify them off the record. Then the evening beforehand i pass down my record one very last time and verify each and every thing off back. Then I %. it so all of it suits. i do not understand the position I were given it from. My mom is a "run around the day of having mad because "no man or woman" packed beforehand" type of man or woman.

If you're a woman, birth control that will stop your menses or enough feminine hygiene products to get you through your trip. A pair of those pants that the leg zip off to make shorts are good to have so you don't have to pack as much.

in addition to toiletries and clothing for the area, you would also want to take Diarrea medication, asprin/tylenol, sunscreen and bug protection.
