My son doesn't look like me or his father AT ALL.
He has dark dark brown hair and bright blue eyes and very pale skin.

I have blond hair and green eyes, and my husband has dark brown hair, but his hair is lighter than our son's. Our son's hair is almost black. Also, My husband has hazel eyes and a darker complexion.

I don't understand where my son's blue eyes came from (neither of us have blue eyes), i don't understand where his dark hair came from (neither of us have hair THAT dark, and i expected it to be in between our colors, like a medium brown; blond mixed with dark brown.), and I don't understand where his pale doll-like skin came from (neither of us are pale, and my husband is kind of tan [naturally])

by the way, i know alot of babies are born with blue eyes and their eyes later on change colors but my son is 26 months old, they would have changed by now.

i'm not complaining about the way he looks, he's a doll! i love him. im just wondering why he came out like that.

The only part that surprises me is the dark hair. The light skin and the blue eyes are easily explained as the result of double recessive genes. Even if no one in recent generations of your family had those traits, they could have been masked by dominant genes and your son inherited the recessive genes from both sides. Dark hair, however, is a dominant gene. I'm sure there's some scientific explanation for how he got that, but it isn't the usual pattern. It would more likely have been blond like yours, or brown like your husband's, or the result of a recessive gene for some not so dark colour (hair colour isn't a mix).

Well, perhaps he inherited all of your recessive genes. Are there people in your extended family who have blue eyes, darker hair, or paler skin? That's where those genes came from.

I also would think that if his eyes were going to change, they would've started to already. And he could just look pale to you compared to yourselves because he hasn't had nearly as much time getting sun as you guys have.

My son has very fair skin too, and neither do his father or I. We all three have blue eyes, though, and he doesn't really have much hair at all yet (he's 5 1/2 months), but it looks as though it may be coming in a strawberry blond color, and both of us have brown hair.

This is something rare but very possible.

How he got his blue eyes, you ask?
-It means that you have blue eyed genes and so does your husband from your ancestors, and your blue eyed genes met in the creation of your son. It is possible for genes to pass on from generation to generation even if they are "distant".

How he got his pale skin, you ask?
-Similar to what I stated above, It means that some of you and your husband's ancestors were pale and the genes were passed on to your son.

How he got his Dark Dark hair, you ask?
-You have dark haired genes, so does your husband. Some of your relatives in the past (recent past or distant past) have or had dark hair. The genes were passed to your son.

Many times, Caucasian women have given birth to "black" children. The women were very shocked because they are fair skinned and so are their husbands. The answer to all of this is that either the Mother and/or Father had african blood in them. One of their ancestors from a long time ago was black. The reason why the parents look white is because over the years their ancestors kept mixing with white people so over time, the new generation no longer looked "black", BUT they still have "black genes" which strongly passed on to their child which is surprisingly dark. It's possible. This has happened many times.

Your son sounds beautiful. Good look with everything.

It's called genetics. When my boys were little neither one of them looked like me at all! Now my oldest still looks like his dad, but my youngest now 21 looks just like me! Kids looks change so quickly and so much that you shouldn't worry too much.
As for the blue eyes, they could have come from a great-grandparent. I have brown hair and eyes my brother has blond hair and blue eyes, my dad was brown hair and eyes, and mom was red hair and blue eyes. Ya just never know!!

Green and blue eyes are recessive genes. Two blue or green eyed people can not have a brown eyed child. Two brown eyed people can have a blue eyed child, but it is uncommon as brown eyes are dominant. It is not strange that your son has blue eyes, as genetically speaking green and blue are the same. I would be alarmed if your son had brown eyes....

it is DNA- it has to do with dominant and recessive genes-
there is more than just you and your husband in this baby's DNA make-up.

you are made from your mother and father-2
he is from his mother and father-2
so far that is 4 people and it only continues to multiply.

take a look at the twins from England- one is white and one is black, there parents are mixed.

You will probably start to notice features of you and him when he gets older.
