DON'T BREED OR BUY WHILE SHELTER ANIMALS DIE!!!
Please don't add anymore animals to a world that already kills millions of homeless pets.
We already have too many chihuahua's. Call a breed rescue in your area and ask, they will tell you. Don't breed anymore.

Its unsafe to breed animals if you are unexperienced at all, period. It can be dangerous for small animals, and dangerous for you AND the animal with big ones. I would take a few courses at a college that professional breeders recommend. (I found a list of courses on a site made by breeders). But mostly, backyard breeding is a large problem, and breeding should be left to the professionals who can sort out what dogs are the best to be bred, which include looking into all sorts of possible hereditary diseases and things like that. Otherwise, if you're secure in your knowledge of breeding... I would say have one person help you, holding the female (who is willing and in heat) still and watching so she doesn't bite the male, and watch the male as he mounts; if he tries to get off before he is done you should hold him to the female gently. Otherwise, everything should go as planned. You should be able to tell if the breeding was successful if when the male dog dismounts, they are joined together and cannot separate for a while. ( 30min-1hr or so, possibly more) You should make sure the female is old enough to carry a successful pregnancy (sometimes females are premature even when they can carry pups) and if you are the owner of the female, have a vet monitor her pregnancy; when it is time for her to have puppies, you need all sorts of equipment; it would be easy to find a list if you look up in a search engine something like "how to whelp", or "whelping equipment". Watch her for labor and try to be there when she has them. Once again, I strongly recommend not doing this unless you're a professional with a year or so apprenticeship with another breeder!

I currently have a 2.5lb chipoo. and i am getting ready to find her a little 2.5lb chihuahua stud (i have a family friend who has one, im going to ask him). But as some of the other answers stated unless you are a expirenced breeder dont try this without a vets supervision. My second dog was a 4lb pom and we always breed her the same male. She was a good mother but i offten had to assist in the deliverly. and i always had to be there with her to supervise in case something went wrong. It is very time comsuming. If you dont have the time and or are unwilling to have emergency Vet plans on hand Plz dont try it. Any time you are going to breed any dog or cat always have the pet seen by a vet. Prenatal care for pets is just as important as human prenatal care. and be prepared to lose some pups expecally with the first litter. My Pom lost her first pup cause she just didnt know what to do, (the other 2 pups from that litter were fine thou)

confident they can mate, yet you're inquiring for huge issues. A 2.5 Chihuahua (there is not any such aspect as a "teacup" Chihuahua...it truly is a advertising ploy) is too small to be bred interior the first position. If the canines would not die, it is going to more effective than likely want a c-section to provide and that isn't any longer low-cost and it truly is risky. Then, you should consider if the pup(s) will also stay. Your pal desires to get her canines neutered and spayed.

I'm not sure you would want to breed a 2 pound chihuahua. Our 4 pounder had difficulty during her pregnancy. Have you discussed this with your vet? Also, she would most likely have to have a c-section which requires being put to sleep. Not many vets know how to safely anesthesize such small dogs. My inlaws breed chihuahuas, and they have lost two to being over anesthesized. Please talk to a vet!

If you have to ask this question here, it means you don't have enough knowledge to breed responsibly.
