Von Willebrand disease is caused by a deficiency of von Willebrand factor. Von Willebrand factor helps platelets to clump together and stick to the blood vessel wall, which is necessary for normal blood clotting.

It's "Von Willebrand's Disease". It is a non-sex-linked bleeding disorder where your platelets cannot form an effective plug to stop bleeding. Usually it does not cause major problems until you have major surgery or trauma. Testing for this trait is expensive. It is similar to Hemophilia, which is caused by lack of either Factor 8 or 9.
