There are a lot of Christians like him - probably the majority, in fact. They just mind their own business and don't try to control everyone else's lives. You know, like Jesus would behave: humble, tolerant, never consumed by hatred, considerate, generous, loving, never asking for money or gifts of any kind, always giving.
My dearest friends are Christians, Agnostics, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, Heterosexuals, gays, and others who behave like Jesus.
Don't give up hope. Even if we wind up in a religious dictatorship run by the Right-Wing extremist "Christians", the good people who behave like Jesus will still exist, and abide no matter what.
Such dictatorships come and go. Good people endure.

Excuse me but you speak of the faith that you love and then at the end you say you are not religious at all. Now which is it. I think you are a fraud trying to start a controversy.
By the way just because a preacher with the United Church of Christ decides he should marry gay couples doesn't make it right in the sight of God. Homosexuality is an abomination in the site of God. Now if a preacher goes against God's word I would stop calling him a preacher and start calling him a false prophet. I am not judging the man he has brought judgement on himself by going against the word of God that he is supposed to be preaching.

I agree, that a good number of Christians are un-Christ-Like. Though the path to enlightenment is long and I respect that they feel the need for a spirit-based life.Religions are like rivers to the sea, some take a long time to get there. Skip the trip, go direct to the ocean.
People generally live the best life they know how to. Many have limited faculties to accept broader concepts, so it takes a bit more time. It's frustrating in the interim, but education is still the best option as opposed to other options.

Why if this minister is a Christian would she/he sanction something that is an abomination to the Lord.
God is loving and forgiving but He is also the same, yesterday, today and forever. Why would he change His mind about something that is so detestable to Him that He destroyed a whole city for practicing it.
If your minister friend is angry with the Fundamentalists for being angry how is she any better?
God is not a popularity contest or a democracy. He is who He is whether we agree or not.

I understand what you mean, but you must understand that everyone who carries a Bible around and speak from it doesn't mean that they are a christian or following the priciples of the Bible! JESUS Warned His followers of that! (Matt. 7: 20, 21), also read (2 Cor. 11: 14, 15)...this should answer your statement for clearly!...........ps. I don't blame you for being righteously angry, true believers are a righteously angry too when people pretend to love & serve GOD, yet Violate HIS WORD, this puts a bad mark on christianity!.......Thank GOD everyone is not like that because there's good & bad in ministries as well as professions!.....keep strong!

My Pastor preaches like Jesus, full of Grace AND Truth. You can check out his teaching series about homosexuality @ http://www.enduringtruth.org/catalog.asp and it's called Grace and Truth about Homosexuality.
God loves homosexuals, just like He loves everyone else. But He loves us too much to leave us the way we are. It isn't loving to tell someone that they can't change and they don't need to because a lie like that will end them up in Hell no matter what sinful lifestyle they are trapped in.
It is loving to tell them that God has made a way for them to be reconciled to Him through faith in his son Jesus Christ and that He will provide supernatural power through the Holy Spirit so that they can begin to live a changed life.

In rejecting the hardline stance of the so-called "Christian Right", we may fall into the same trap, by becoming "dogmatic" and condemning ourselves.
It is therefore necessary to know what is truly essential in Christianity.
Let me paraphrase what Augustine of Hippo said:
"In what is essential, let there be unity.
In what is not essential, let there be liberty.
But in all things, let there be charity."

Maybe the bad Rev. Robin Meyers and yourself has never read the 1 chapter of Romans:
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath showed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Rom 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshiped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
Rom 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31 Without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
Seems to me that people like the Rev. aren't really Godly.
1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
1Ti 4:2 Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;
2Ti 3:13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.
