Orthodontists don't drill your teeth before they put braces in. If your teeth are tight together, then they'll probably jam a spacer between your back teeth so they can put in the anchor brackets later. (A spacer is a piece of plastic that's wedged between your teeth to push them apart. It feels like you have food caught in your teeth.) When they apply your braces, they'll put the anchor braces on your back teeth - they're bands that completely surround the teeth. Then they'll glue square brackets on every other tooth and string a wire through them. The wire is held on by rubber bands that you can get in a variety of colors.

You'll be sore for a few days after your braces are applied, and you'll be sore a day or so about every six weeks when your braces are tightened or adjusted. Cold drinks and Tylenol help. As your teeth get straighter, the time you'll feel sore is lessened, so that's a perk.

I don't know what shape your teeth are in, but you could also have various appliances, headgear or retainers in use during your treatment. You might have none. All in all, braces are a piece of cake, but you'll have to be extra careful to brush and floss regularly. If you really bail on the brushing, your teeth can erode and when your braces come off, you'll have stained squares where they used to be.

They don't drill your teeth. They glue little brackets on the fronts of your teeth then they pop a wire in the brackets and hold it in place with tiny rubber bands. They might need to extract a few teeth first, at least they did with me.

It only hurts when they tighten your braces.

Don't bother with apples and popcorn. They are more trouble than they are worth. Good luck.

Assuming you mean "braces" as in many, and not just one... No it doesn't really hurt and they do not drill, they glue them on. Getting the spacers beforehand to spread out your teeth, now that hurts. But hey, straight teeth are wonderful and it's worth it.

it actually doesn't hurt, all they do it they first prep the tooth, much like you do to get to slabs of clay to stick together. all they is take a needle like one for cleaning teeth and make a couple hash marks, then they put on the cement, which tastes really sour, then the put the bracket on the they dry the cement with a uv light. doesn't hurt until you get the wire on then its mild pain for a day or 2 then its like they're not even there.
