Okay here is the story. For a couple of months I was having some stomach cramps and groin pain, then the dr told me I had a UTI so they gave me Cipro for 3 days. Durning that time there was no change in pain. So 5 days later I went back in and the UA showed that the infection was still there and WORSE. So then I was starting to have flank pain and nausea. So they gave me Cipro for 10 days. My question is...
1) What happens if this doesn't work either, what will they do?
2) Could this be so strong cause it went on for a long time?
3) Isn't Cipro the strongest med for this?
I am just worried that if this doesn't work this time what will they do then?
THANKS!

Did your doctor take a urine sample and send it for identification of the infection you are growing? They should have had you urinate in a sterile cup and send it for a culture to make sure they have you on the right antibiotic. Not every single antibiotic works on every single infection. A UA does not identify the bacteria you are growing in your urinary tract, it simply tells them you have everything in your tract which is indicative of an infection.
Go back to the doctor and tell him you are not better, and ask him what kind of bacteria you are growing and be sure to ask if it is sensitive to Cipro. If he is just putting you on Cipro because it is a broad spectrum antibiotic, he may have you on the wrong one and need to ID your urinary tract infection _ Urine culture..
Cipro is a very good drug for a UTI, but you should have been cleared up by now. It may be the wrong match.
In the meantime, drink extra water and pee often to get the bugs out of your urinary tract. Dont hold your urine.
I hope this is understandable.
I am a nurse in a hospital.

There are other meds that work for bladder infections. If this 10 day course doesn't work then more then likely they will try another med. make sure your drinking plenty of water. Cut back on soda if you drink it.If you take baths don't showers only.
