It is true. But it isn't a plaster. It's called a "drawing salve", and it works very well. My mother used to dig splinters out with a needle, which she had "sterilized" by holding it over a lit match. Primitive and VERY painful at the very least. Drawing salve is much less painful and easier to use, and it gets the entire splinter. Put the salve on the gauze of a bandaid, and put directly over the splinter. Or put some salve on the splinter and cover with a bandaid. I believe the salve has antiseptic and pain killers in it. Wait a day or two and remove. Wash the area thoroughly, then cover with a bandaid.
Salve is available at any drug store.

Take Elmer's glue and put over the site of the splinter and let it dry. Depending on how far under the skin it is, in about 24 hours peel the glue off and more than likely the slpinter will pull out in the glue.

I've never heard of this plaster...depending on how close to the surface of the skin is you can use tweezers if it is close enought or if its deeper then you may need to use a sewing needle but make sure the needle is thoroughly sterilized...it is really bad and you can't get it all go to the doctor.

duct tape...works for most anything...seriously put a patch of duct tape over the spot for about an hour and it will soften the skin enough to extract the splinter

Just dig it out with a needle. No need to spend money on some paste.
