I love all of your questions. Jesus said , It is not what goes in that destroys the temple but what comes out. It was also stated by Titus the smallest member of our body is the most unruly. That is the tongue. It is sharper than a two edged sword. So you tell me what you think is the sin? I think hurting an innocent person because you have had a bad day is sin. I think if you vent your anger in a wrong way, that could be construed as sin.

All humans have weaknessess.
Smoking
Alcohol
Over eating
Lustful thoughts
Muderous thoughts

We are told that as we grow closer to GOD that we are to learn to control these weaknessess.

Not sure on the MAJOR word used with it here, as all sin is equally detested in GODs view. But it is a weakness I have yet to control to the point of quitting.

The good news is, I am working on it, and that is what matters most, is where my heart is on the matter.

As to if it is a sin if the person is not saved, I would have to say no. because the Pauls writings talk about awareness of wrong. If you are aware that what you are doing is wrong, then it becomes sin. Unaware, not sin yet. Its a bit more complicated than I can write here, but for me , I am aware and therefore it is sin for me.

Smoking is harmful to your body as well as your spirit! But I would not say that it is a major sin!
New Christians have a hard time quitting but the longer they walk eventually in God's good timing they will cease to smoke!

There are many things that can be concidered as sin and defile our bodies. You are right in saying our bodies arent our own......God created us and there for we are His and we should honor him with our bodies because indeed it is the Holy Temple of the Lord.

Things like smoking, over eating, having sex before marriage, doing drugs, drinking alcohol and getting drunk........all these things are bad for a person and their body and can and could be concidered sin.....people are not perfect
and do make mistakes......I'll admit i tend to over eat, but im trying my best to put an end to that.

The wonderful news is Jesus loves us despite our short comings and faults and if we Take Him as Lord and savior of our lives and ask him into our hearts and do our best to live as He wants us to live then we are forgiven and will have eternal life in heaven.......isnt that awesome!

That doesnt mean we can keep on doing things we know are wrong either we should work on changing them and bettering ourselves......Ask God to forgive and He will........then turn away from sin and do your best to do the right things in your life.

God bless you!

No, I would never say that smoking is a sin. Especially not a major sin. It's on the same level as overeating or Chewing tobacco. Not good for you. Not God's best for you but not a salvation issue.

A major sin would be like murder, rape, adultery. Where you are hurting other people.

Don't heap extra burdens on people beyond what God in His great mercy actually requires, please.

There is a ton of things we do to our bodies that harm it. We all have a better chance of dying in a car wreck than getting cancer from smoking. Needless to say Jesus told us there is nothing that goes into the body that makes it unclean but what comes out of the heart.

I say yes. Any time that you do anything that hurts your body, you are destroying God's temple that he made for you and you only. We have to have more respect for the fact that our bodies and treat them like the temple that God gave us all.

Yeah, it's a major sin! Like one of the first ten commandments or something. Come on, are you for real?

Yes, but I also drink Vodka and smoked marijuana for 20 years, and lately I eat too much, although I do enjoy bicycle riding, but at least I don't smoke WHILE I ride like I used to.

Everything is relative!
