Let's just stop a minute and look at our tax system and what pro illegals state.

1. Pro illegals state that they are poorly paid
2. HYPOTHETICALLY, if illegals pay taxes, don't you think that they get ALL the money back in deductions for children.

So here we are. Illegals are paying NO taxes yet getting social benefits, free health care, and education.

Do you see something wrong with this picture?

Generally, the uneducated illegals coming across make so little that there are no effective taxes, assuming that they go through the trouble of filing. The employers knowingly hiring illegals certainly aren't going to pay SS taxes and bring the extra attention.

Recent statistics suggest that latinos have 2.8 kids on average per household, rounding up that's three deductions plus the parents. If I'm not mistaken, that would cover most taxes up to about $30K in earnings. I don't know too many manual labor illegals that are making over $15/hour.

The ESL program around here is bursting at the seams and the school district is screaming for more money for the program. The government is having to train all sorts of employees to speak Spanish as well. Even without pure hand-out type assistance, the costs add up.

If a person enters the US legally and is carrying a green card, then they are taxed on earned wages, etc. In Colorado, I observed numerous illegals who worked for high wages paid under the table. They had no benefits and did not pay taxes. I did not see any that were on the system; however, their children received aid through educational and social channels. It is the conception that illegals will work harder, longer and for less wages which benefits employers.....in construction, they are paid well above the average but do work longer hours (14 to 16 a day). There is definitely something wrong with the picture and there is definitely a need for some control by Federal, State, and local governments. If people work in this country, regardless of their status, they should be subjected to the same laws, taxes, and benefits that US citizens are......we who work hard, pay taxes, etc., receive less than those who are violating our country's labor and tax laws.

Yes, I see something wrong, but it's not with the picture you're trying to paint. It's with the rhetoric you're spewing.
Anyone is allowed to claim their children as deductions on their paycheck. If you are illegal, than you pay taxes before you get your check, but don't have the benefit of getting any of it back, because you don't have a SS# to file with.
As for free health care, you can't get it without a SS#, and why would you deny a child an education? I mean you personally?
In fact, if you actually took the time to educate YOURSELF before making such ignorant statements about something you obviously know absolutely nothing about, you wouldn't look so foolish. And you might find this fact interesting and helpful-
As a tax paying person, or the child of one, you can qualify for a free college education. Please, check it out.

Some do. And yes big deductions back. Probably more than put in -in many cases.

The tax people can not follow up on everyone-so unless there is a mistake on the paper--it just gets processed. And they they like the money coming in-unclaimed and don't care.

Yes it is a problem.http://www.cis.org/articles/2004/fiscalrelease.html

Well,Made_In_America.I have posted questions relating to this before.I refuse to look it up again.Try searching for the ITIN(Individual Taxpayer Identification Number). And also try looking up anything about the Earning Suspense File.Illegals do pay taxes.I know many own homes (where I live anyway) and some own businesses. They might get that money back at the end of the year.I don't blame them for that I blame the friggin government and their Earned Income Credit b/s.

I know what you mean, we are having trouble with taxes this year because someone used my husbands SSN to file right before he did. We really suspect that it is someone illegal in the first place and the IRS seems to think we are the fake ones! They already gave the other guy his money and wont even talk to us! You would think the fact that we already have filed as married filing jointly and then suddenly his comes up as single with out us every being divorced could be a good sign that the other one was fake, but NO..

yes, they do pay taxes & if they do have an ITIN number that aren't entitled to the EIC cuz they can't claim their children who r born US citizens-just how the laws work. but i know many who own houses, cars & businesses so i'm guessing they're getting taxes like the rest of us. plus, i know that the unclaimed money goes to the SS account & is distributed to Americans who have/will retire, so what u gotta say bout that? its a win/win situatio, sort of, depends on how u look at it. hmmmm...

First let me try and address your questions from top to bottom. And I'm going to assume you are an American (as am I) as while many English speaking countries use this site worldwide it's a hot issue here now.

Yes, I do think some (if not most) illegals pay taxes but I don't believe they pay all of the taxes that are required of the rest of us. In most cases they are simply paying sales tax (because we all have to if we want to buy anything (except for the black market)) and not much more. But you have to ask why? Is it truly because they don't want to because they hate paying "like the rest of us" or because they don't want to make themselves targets for the Department of Homeland Security? I would go with number two, the IRS doesn't expect returns from citizens who don't exist and receiving a return from one (who isn't on the books) is definitely a red flag.

So now we have to be plain about this and address question number one. Yes Pro Illegals say that they are poorly paid... and with good reason. They are right. Please, tell me the last time you saw a white collar illegal? Even blue collar? I live and work in the Midwest where much of my family is involved in factory labor some way or another tied to the auto industry and I can tell you, these are some of the most pro labor people in the country. If there were illegal aliens working in their shops we would know about. Whether it was Michigan or Texas, they would make a stink. So getting back to it... yes they are making poor wages. Those same poor wages are what keep our food prices low.

Now on to your second item which is more of a statement than question. This could quite possibly be true but I don't know that it's such a bad thing and my explanation takes some forward thought. First, we have one of the best systems (across the board) in the world today for taking care of our citizens from cradle to grave. Granted there are many countries, such as Sweden, that have a higher standard of living (as measured per capita) but we live pretty well. But the easy thing to forget is we live well because we have always been an immigrant fueled economy. Cheap and easy labor here is is one of the most important ingredients to fuel a successful business. If anyone would like to dispute that I would encourage you to chat with the CEO of a manufacturing company who now competes with China. On top of that it keeps prices lower for the rest of us on everything from American made clothes to produce, which allows our dollar to go farther on stretched budgets.

There is one other important component to this and that is Social Security. The program that has taken care of our elderly for decades, while not perfect, is essential. But the problem with Social Security comes down to pure math. It is funded by citizens during their working years in a general pool which is then redistributed back to them in their retirement years. During this time the government is making a bet that; the same number of people paying in over a period of time will be greater than the number of people they are paying out at any given time. In addition to this they expect that these retiree's will be living a certain amount of time and then dying. This is what makes Social Security work. But in the late 20th century to problems arose with American society that don't make this work. First, people are having less children and second... people are living much, much longer than people ever thought.

So now we are facing a crisis of not having enough young new citizens to pay into Social Security to "secure" the future of our elderly. That is a big concern of mine.

And for you're summary:

So here we are. Illegals are paying NO taxes yet getting social benefits, free health care, and education.

Free education maybe but please tell me the last time you got free health care and if you did how good was it? I'll tell you I know people who are poor... really poor, and they don't get free health care ANYWHERE! Think about this people! When did you last see the welcome banner read "Come on in Illegals! Free shots for everyone!" It dozen't happen for illegals because it doesn 't happen for Americans. It is a myth perpetrated on the American public by a scaremongering media. There may be examples where this occur ed but I can assure you common sense tells me that it is the exception and not the rule.

And finally to respond to your last question:

Do you see something wrong with this picture?

Yes, there is something wrong with this picture but it's not an all out war against "illegals" that is the answer. It is something bigger, we need to have some serious legislative reform in regards to immigration and as a people we need to rethink our approach to the rest of the world. This is the only way we will truly turn this problem into a solution.
