Why does it feel so good to scratch a mosquito bite that really itches?

(Sorry, I know some of you were expecting another kind of question...there are children present, BEHAVE!)

Ok, I know the whole thing about if it itches, scratch it.
I'm looking for the actual scientific process behind why it feels so good.
There's got to be a reason...

Because you're responding to an involuntary stimulus.
You itch, you scratch. Receptors in the skin send an acknowledgement back to the brain that the urge has been satisfied and it can worry about something else now.

There. That's the best kid-safe response I can come up with.
