i'm in college and am pretty shy. the only things i get outgoing about (pretty much) are my views, which are not really like many other peoples at my school, so if i started w/ that, i'd just be starting arguments and what not.
i've tried to club thing, but then i expressed a view and three people there cornered me. LITERALLY! *groans*

Use your strengths to your advantage. Join a debate team, do some looking around for discussion groups with simular views and join. Be more open about others opinions, you have yours, they have theirs, leave it at that. try saying "Hello" once in a while to people you pass in hall ways and on sidewlaks, then don't be scared of conversations that pop up. Try off capmus groups as well. the internet groups are ok, but it sounds like you need groups that meet face to face on a regular basis.

I find that I am having better luck meeting interesting people in college than I was in high school. If I were you, I'd start going to class a bit early and trying to meet people there. You can also arrange study sessions with your classmates. You guys can talk about the subject matter, or you can maybe tutor some of them. Just get over the idea that you're shy. Everyone seems to think they're shy, so you're in good company. Good luck!

I am in the exact same situation. The social life pretty much goes with the high school diploma. The internet is a good search though, as nerdy as it may sound. I've mostly hung out with people I've met online or people from work. Classes leave no room for socializing.

don't share your views too openly, get close to the people around you first. just act lax and be 'game' - like you'd do anything that you're dared to do on the spot (but don't kill yourself). be friendly but not too friendly, don't say hi to all the people you see - but only to the people you're somewhat familiar with. attend the events - parties, organizations, etc. don't go home right after your classes, hang out with your friends. through your friends and the classes you take, you'll earn more and more friends. college was the best time ever. goodluck!
