My doctor just started me on a medication called Pamine Forte. I'm feeling pretty good on it, and have purposely tested it by eating too much dairy on one occasion, and a spicy meal on another occasion to see what would happen. I had good results both times. I've never been able to eat as much fiber as is recommended and stress is a big problem for me. I take Buspar to control anxiety and to level out my serotonin levels. When the doctor took me off of the Buspar the IBS actually got worse. What the doctor's don't seem to get is that a lot of the stress comes with dealing with IBS on a daily basis. You can't plan your day without knowing where all restrooms are in advance unless you just skip eating for the day. If hadling stress is a contributing factor for you consider a low dose anxiety medication or an anti-depressant to level the serotonin.

Not to alarm you, but my doctor diagnosed me with IBS. I had been having issues for 8 months. Every morning I would have to use the restroom 2-3 times then 2-3 times in the evening. She said that it was brought on by stress from school. I explained to her that I wasn't dealing with any abnormal stress. She then prescribed me an antidepressant, I never took it, and told me they would do a colonoscopy if my symptoms did not improve. I finally went to see her again because I didn't want to take the meds and she had me do a stole sample. They ended up finding a parisite in my stomach. She didn't test me for this earlier because I was not losing weight or malnurished. This parsite would have killed my within the next 6 months!!!!! I picked it up on my travels, they suspect the salad I had in Taiwan (it was at a very clean resort hotel)!
Ask them to give you a stool sample to make sure that IBS is what you have! If the meds and diets aren't working then you owe it to yourself to have them do the check.
Good Luck!

Raza,
Find out if you are allergic or intolerant of the following:
- wheat
- gluten
- dairy
- fructose
- yeast
If your blood tests are inconclusive, try an elimination diet based on the above, or any other foods that you think might contribute to your IBS. Keep a food journal.
Try also drinking distilled water to eliminate possible toxins in your normal drinking water.
Check if you have parasites.
Try taking raw apple cider vinegar diluted with water daily. It is good for the gut.
You probably know the drill: Eat healthy food, preferably organic.

try this:
http://www.helpforibs.com/
Incredibly useful resource; includes several natural/herbal supplements (which I use religiously), a message board for fellow IBS sufferers, and a HUGE reference . What's nice is it provides useful IBS-treatment information without "forcing" you to use their products every chance they get. Of course, they do encourage it, but honestly they've made me feel 100% better in the last few months. If anything you should take a fiber supplement (like the one on that link, or something like metamucil). Page through that site and you should be able to find some direction on what you can do to help your IBS.

talk to your doctor, there are a couple of drug options that can make things better for you (zelnorm for constipation prone IBS, or Levbid, Levsin for diarrhea prone IBS), I have been on meds since I was 14 and it has made a huge difference for me. Also be mindful of what you eat and when you eat it...for me, I can't eat anything early in the morning or late at night before bed, I also have to limit sugary foods (which make mine worse), fiber therapy has also been known to help, but if you don't drink adequate water, it can cause constipation.
and lastly, if stress is a factor, find ways to resolve your stress..get plenty of sleep, take deep breaths, exercise...that sort of thing. A lot of times stress is a big factor in IBS attacks.
Good luck!

De-Stress!!!! One of the major things I deal with in my clients that have IBS is they are over stressed, their bodies are stressed and the body deals with it the best way it can.
Change in stress levels..practicing deep relaxation technics for 40 minutes everyday...
Change in diet...dairy and gluten can also increase the occurance of IBS.
Hope this helped.
