It's actually not safe at all. If repeated, it can lead to some really neurotic behaviors in cats or dogs, because moving light beams are everywhere. I know it sounds strange, but it is true.

I personally wouldn't use a laser pointer as a toy for my cat. The laser could damage your cat's eyes. I usually use a flashlight with my cats....they love chasing the light. It's extremely funny to watch because they go crazy for the light!

Hey,
Don't use anything like a laser toy or light or anything even remotely like it. If you want something safe in the way of cat chasing lighting then get a small disco ball from the $2 shop and hang it in a room and turn of the lights, then spin it around and shine a torch at it. If you don't want to do that then you can use i low light torch and shine it away for the cat.

I used a laser pointer with my cat for months, She loved it, I never shone it on her body or in Her eyes, She would spend ages chasing it around.

But then a car ran over my cat and She can no longer play with anything.

I don't think so even if you don't point in his/her eyes, because I've heard since they will never catch it, they will be discouraged to chase anything and it can lead to behavoir problems if they love and will start chasing other lights like maybe car headlights which is totally not safe.

You will never need television again...your cat will go nuts and it's friggin hilarious!!!! Just don't shine it in kitty's eyes (at least not on purpose)

it works really good because I've used it with my cat once. He would jump on the wall just to get it.
