First of all, how do you know what goes on in a "typical " Christian's brain? What is a "typical" Christian? You sure are lumping an awful lot of Christians into one category. And you're wrong. I am a Christian and I don't agree with the statement you made. I don't believe in the Bible "just because people tell me to believe in it". Besides, I'm wondering why you sound so angry about it!

Its not because its in the bible, or because its an old book, its not because I feel the need to believe everything in it.The bible means so much to Christians because once you get a close relationship with God you want to learn more about him.Its a feeling of safety inside and peace. Its knowing God always has a plan. When you really know God you know that the Bible is real.Something that is "real" to you is important to you therefore you stand behind it.Just as in "real love" for instance, when you really love a person whatever they desired you would want them to have just as bad as they want it.Some people just don't get it.I think Satan sucks the brain out of them so they can't understand the Holy Trinity.

To know Jesus is not just "reading the bible" or "a old Book" as you call it, this only goes to prove your ignorance, and I don't say that to you to be mean, if you look up the word ignorance, it means "unknowing"
He he a powerful force, so great that only a chosen few will experience his majesty. a feeling so intense and wonderful that a flea like you could not even fathom.
it's not a knowing from a book, or a brain, it's much deeper than that.
its a knowing in your heart, a feeling, believing in the things not seen. an experience!
the holy bible is written in parables, meaning that its not always to be taken literal. it can be perceived in different ways. but for people like you, I suppose it would be just "a old book" because you have not accepted him yet, therefore you will not be able to discern it. when the time is right for you, (or maybe by your choice, not) or anyone who asks for wisdom, he will grant it to you, and when you ask him to come into your heart and only then, accept that he died on the cross not only FOR you but AS you, then my friend you will not say "it's only a book and I should believe in it because people tell me too" but you will KNOW to believe in it because he will open up your dead eyes, to a whole new world!
hope this helps, but in you case, probably not, because its too deep for "YOUR BRAIN" ( if you want to call it that) your arrogance annoys me, but I will just annoy you by telling you that I will pray for you! ha.
other believers that stand with me, you will know what I am saying ;)

If you follow the book good things will happen to you. People have heard God's voice and seen Jesus himself. That is, if they are believers in the word (what the Bible says). I'm a believer of the Bible and I've heard God's voice before and it's awesome. And the Bible's not just a good book, it's our life manual. If you ever try living by it, you'll see what I mean. But I think you're gunna be one of those people that just make fun of Christians until Christ comes back to get his people and you're stuck in the Tribulation (just like the Bible says) then you're gunna want Jesus and tell him that you believe in him.

Okay Genius. Then how do you explain those of us who were not always believers? That's right Einstein!! Some of us used to be a little like you. However because we are capable of higher thought processes we LEARNED about the bible. This required actual reading. You may want to take some aspirin before you try. Or have an adult read it to you. Anyway, after we LEARNED, we became Christians. We abandoned the foolishness which you embrace.
Thanks for making a great argument(for us). You show that many, though certainly not all, atheist are idiots.

Let me put it this way: billions of people believed the earth was flat, until Christopher Columbus picked up some scriptures where the Bible said the earth was round. People thought he was insane for trusting it and sailing around the world (as he thought, at the time), and he didn't fall off the earth! Hey, it works. Try reading it sometime.

Is there even such a person as a "typical Christian" anymore? Practically all the mainstream "Jesus follower" groups are splintered, and even within the big organizations there are individuals that either challenge what they are taught, or choose for themselves what to believe and what not to believe.
True, there are a lot of "blind" faithful, but there are also a lot who could give you logical reasons for believing in the bible.
But are you open to reasoning (by "reasoning" i don't mean agreeing)?

I'm Christian and I know very few Christians (close to nil) who have the outlook you have apparently come across rather often. Please don't call it "typical" because, while it may be typical where you live, it doesn't mean that it really is typical of Christians in general.
There are stupid Christians and smart Christians, just as there are stupid atheists and smart atheists, and we could go on and on... By letting yourself be as narrow-minded as those who have the narrow-minded view of the Bible, what are you accomplishing? Let yourself be above that!

The only way to know for sure about the bible being true or God being real is to have a genuine encounter with God. If He gives you his power, you will never ever be the same again and He can reveal Himself to anyone He chooses at anytime. No person has the ability to convince me about God. Only a real encounter has done that.

I am a christian & can see that obviously you know nothing about christianity & the fact that there is much more than that to it. But then that is something some brains just can't comprehend!
