it could be a couple of things...a cavity, exposed root (very sensitive), using too cold of water (if your teeth are sensitive).
I'd make an appt with your dentist - if it's a cavity, you want to catch it early.

As some of the other answers suggested, you could have a cavity. Could also be that you were brushing to hard and you irritated your gum. If you have sensitive teeth, try a toothpaste called Sensodyne and a toothbrush with soft bristles. If you had sudden, sharp, stabbing pain in or around your tooth, you may have gingivitis, a gum disease. I don't think it's as serious as an exposed root. You would peeling yourself off the ceiling in pain. Either way, make an appt with your dentist. Letting it go for to long
now means you have more problems later. Hope all is well.

hello..u have gingivitis...don worry try mouth rinsing and show to the dentist...maybe u brushed too hard there on that tooth and hurt ur gingiva...is the gingiva raound the tooth swollen..is there change in the colour of the gingiva around the tooth ,,if u can tell me da details i can guide u further...

sometimes teeth are sensitive to cold water if you dont feel thats the problem you may have a cavity best thing is to see the dentist. good luck

Try DR.Tischners mouth wash diluted with water several times a day remember our mouths are a den for bacteria.
