Previously when I was going to school I was able to come home and take him out every few hours. I am going to be working from8-5 now and don't want him to hold it for 9 hours! Is there a way to potty train him so that he can go on a pad or a certain place in the house? I don't have a doggy door, or know anyone who can come and take care of him. Please let me know any method that you've used that work.

I also don't have a fenced area where I could let him into if I did have a doggy door

Incase you are wondering - I don't have any family or currently know anyone where I moved. I moved to Pennsylvania from Texas. My family moved to New York and all my friends are in Texas, thus explaining the situation I am in. My new house I moved to does not have a fenced backyard much less a doggie door.

The very first thing you should be doing is collecting a sample of her urine, and taking it, and her to the vet. It sounds to me as if she could well have a UTI, bladder stones, or yes, perhaps diabetes. There's no point trying any training techniques until you know whether this is in fact something medical. Drinking more isn't always a sign of diabetes - could even be connected with a uterine infection, unless she's spayed. And training her to use pee pads is a total no-no in any case. Dogs who are basically allowed to empty indoors, will move on to going anywhere indoors. Unlike cats (who can still miss) dogs don't go in the same place. So this won't have helped and you do need to take the pads away completely, taking her outside to empty more often to begin with, until she gets the message. It's retaining, so it will take time!!

Weather permitting, an outdoor kennel might work. I would most definitely hesitate to allow him to bathroom indoors. If he is crated or crate trained, keeping him in there would be ok for part of the day, but not for 9 hours. Is there a neighbor or anyone who could give him a potty break during the day? Or, doggy daycare? I know it's costly but, he is used to regular potty breaks and people contact throughout the day so it might be your best bet for peace of mind.

Isn't there "anyone" you trust to perhaps come/give him a walk?Excuse me dear but why did you do such an irresponsible thing like that?Leaving an animal alone/many dogs have and or will develop "seperation anxiety"It can and is a horror for any animal/as far as a toilet.are you kidding? He'd fall in the toilet! To even justify that is ridiculous but i did!Do you not have a family member and or some further experience/and sorry but it is selfish to leave a dog alone OR put in a shelter/Animals are not the problem/It is a "people" problem...it is a fact!?cannot find guy asking"?monium/for diareha?NEVER!

Buy him a kennel. Start by leaving him in it for shorter periods...say one hour or so...and then letting him out for "business."

Next, extend that to three or four hours, repeating the same procedure.

Once your dog has done that for a week or two, he will be more than ready to stay in his kennel all day while you are gone with his toys and refreshments.

Sounds mean, but dogs actually find comfort in small places. Just make sure to walk him right before you leave and as soon as you get home.

My bf is an animal trainer and taught me this. I swear by it because my dog goes nuts if she DOESN'T stay in the kennel when I'm gone.

you could try making sure he has only a small amount of water, enough to get him though the day, and enclose him in an area like the kitchen. Most dogs wont defecate or pee in the area that they are confined to. My dog is 13 yrs old and can stay in the kitchen for 12 hours at a time. We feed her at night, she does her bussiness 2 hours later. Only leave enough water for her to sustain so she doenst hog it all up and pee herself.

If you have been taking him out for the last 3 years, He should know enough that he isn't supposed to go inside, And he will proballbly hold it until you get home, Just make sure you let him out before you leave and as soon as you get home, Our dog is 2 years and she will hold it for 12 hours if she really had to. unless she is sick.

If he doesn't make a mess inside now he probably wont while your at work. I would suggest giving him a good walk before you leave work and maybe investing a cage for him. Dog's usually wont mess in their cages and like being in there. My dog even goes in there when I am home. They like to have small places, like their den in the wild to hang out. Maybe you can come home on your lunch hour.

dont use a pad, that will reverse everything you tought him. he will begin to think that it is okay to potty in the house!

have a dog run put up in your back yard or something, and leave him there while you're at work.

find a different solution other than a pad.

two ideas, try closing him in or blocking off one room with piddle pads in one spot. or crate train in large crate with pads at one end.
asap get fence / doggie door. it is really the easiest and nicest for the pet.

hey just put a pee- pee pad out on the floor so he/ she could go on that. or have a friend come over every 3 hours and watch him for 5 minutes . also put him on the pee- pee pad every once in a while so he could get used to it and smell the sent.
