Our bullmastiff has been eating bugs since we brought him home at 8 weeks of age. Although nothing wrong with having a full time exterminator, it is a bit disgusting. When Mr. Orkin was here he didn't eat them. Our granddaughter who is absolutely terrified of bugs thinks there can not be a more perfect situation. She screams, he tracks it down and eats it. Her first encounter with his bravery, she exclaimed with such admiration "He is a protector." That he is, but is this normal??

Yes, my 5 month old bullmastiff does the same exact thing it is very normal, I guess they just think it is fun to chase after something and catch it, also it wont hurt them to eat it it might tickle his lips a little but thats it.

Every dog I've ever had loves to chase down bugs... My pomeranian even made the mistake of biting a bee. I've always thought this was normal.

Normal. Our Schnauzer and the cat will hunt bugs in the house. It's really cute.
The dog will sit outside sometimes and snap at flying bugs. She doesn't catch very many, it must be the hunting instinict.

It is normal. Our Rottweiler does the same thing. The problem is the stubborn brat loves to chase bees and wasps. Even after being stung over and over he goes back for more!

Yes it is normal. I had an English Mastiff that ate bugs, dirt, just about anything. They are also very protective.

I have only one dog that i have seen do this and it is my boston terrier. she kept my house clean from bugs. we should have named her bugs. but we started calling her hoover vacuum cleaner. she don't do it anymore because the new house we are in don't seem to attract as many bugs and she can't see them very well because of the color of the carpet
