I used to work in a State Hospital. I cared for people who I had previously partied with that were there for attempting suicide, to old people who beat on nurses to young kids that had killed their parents. The movies have a sad way of degrading people who are supposedly "crazy". The people I cared for just had problems that any one of us could have at any time if chose bad choices too. I spent alot of time on suicide watch, cuz some would try to hang themselves with their bedsheets. We "took people down" alot for acting belligerent and aggressive. There was one special case though where a guy would never leave his room, because he thought he was an orange, and thought everyone wanted to peel him. (LSD overdose.)

Yes, I can. I don't know what you will get out of this for a report tomorrow. Remember that these people have a disease that affects who they are and how they think. The treatment affects the same.
Some of them do not know who they are. They are:
Kruschev, the Russian prime minister,
Jesus Christ
pick a name
Some of them don't know where they are:
-talk about getting on the bus at the depot
-seek to leave the room to go to the bank or some such place.
some of them lose positional awareness
-catatonia is where people stay still and may impede traffic in a hall etc.
Agnosognosia
Pt: You know doc, there aren't that many sane people left in town. You and me and that is about it.
Dr. I see
Self medication
Patient is in the psych ward and doesn't take the medicine as prescribed (takes none or a part of their meds or takes their roommates too) or adds some of their own (friends come to the ward with recreational drugs)

actually, i'm just curious to know how you think finding the most degrading or "nasty" or "obscene" things could be material for a report. what instructors want to know that or would accept that as homework? and why do you have another open question about "ramming their heads into the cold white walls"? if you're curious on what it's like inside one, just say so and ask. i bet we'd all still answer. as for the responder who was locked in a little white room for a whole day--bear in mind that law requires us to attempt to let people out of restraint or seclusion (which, by the way, counts as any room, even their own bedroom with the door open, if they think they're not able to come out) every two hours. i personally am curious to know where they do white walls at? it's impossible to keep white walls clean...how many nursing homes or regular hospitals have them, much less a unit where people are likely to throw their orange juice or spaghetti? all in all, though, the seclusion girl is right--you'd be disappointed to see how normal things really are.

Not too sure about psych wards, but my mother-in-law had Altzeheimers's. I used to buy her a newspaper on Mondays, and she would read it for the whole week. Each time commenting on the headlines and front page as being something new.

they think they have things that other countries' governments implanted in them for big government espionage stuff. They they they are sexually probed by aliens. They often have voices telling them they are no good and to hurt themselves. They laugh at really inappropriate times. They think the hospital is trying to poison them thru their food. They think there are people "out there" who are out to get them. They think people come in their rooms at night and do stuff. They think people live in the ceilings and floors and monitor them. They hear people singing, say, Christmas carols around them. They think they are married and have kids when the aren't and don't. They think they work for the government. They think they've invented great things. That's just this week.

I was in a mental hospital... No one did anything too outrageous, hate to disappoint you. But if you have emotional outbursts, they really DO lock you in small white rooms for a day at a time.

I had heard of a case of a mentally ill man who sat squatting on the floor sticking one finger in his a$$ because he "didn't want his soul to leak out" and pulling out his hair with his other hand because it "belonged to his father."
