Any dog will help deter intruders.Barking will keep alot of burglers at bay.Even smaller dogs can and will help keep out anyone that doesnt belong and let you know their lurking about.

I have always had great luck with American Staffordshire Terriers also known as pit bulls. They are very loyal and loving and protective, strong, dogs. If you are not mean to them, and you keep them from being abused (which can make any dog mean) you don't have to worry about the bad reputation. It is bunk. Some places have laws and ordinances against owning these dogs as well as others, so check out your area regulations first.
Go online and google them, see how cute they are when pups. Get a young one. Females are better with children, if you have kids, and males are more one on one for the most part. If you want a dog that is a one person dog, go for a male. You truely will not be sorry. They are the greatest dogs. Good luck.

Not a dumb one that's for sure. A dumb one will show the burglars where all your money is while wagging their tail.

A dobermain pinscher will let someone in the house, but won't let you leave, haha

I have a 250 pound Bull Mastiff that shakes the whole house and 2 down when he barks. That is called crime deterrence my friend.

Just look around for the different breeds.

My German Shepherd is a great watchdog. My Rat Terrier also does the trick--they tend to work together; Rat Terrier alerts us and Shepherd is the "muscle" behind the barking! I would recommend knowing the breeder and also attending some training classes so YOU are in control of them at all times though.

almost any dog will bark at an intruder. Go to the shelter and rescue a young dog, any will grow to be protective. You can tell the grown size, usually by the size of their paws.

German Shepherds are very loyal, so are Standard Poodles and Dobermans. All of these dogs are highly intelligent.

I recommend a German Shepard, I have one and he's an excellent guard dog and he's only a year old, he would never hurt anyone but his bark is enough to scare anyone who doesn't know him.

One that has a loud voice. I have a male english mastiff no one bothers us because he can be the sweetest dog in the world but to an intruder, he looks ferocious.
