Ideally, you will have a very small gap between the floor and hem. I'm assuming you'll be wearing heals. Also, as you walk your legs kind of push the skirt forward and give you a little space for foot movement. If it is still an issue, use one hand to hold the side of your skirt and keep it out of your way - this especially is important when climbing stairs. Lift the hem up slightly so you can step up without stepping on your skirt and falling.
Also, practise at home (or in private) first if you have time.

Women will pick up their dress a little to where it is a few inches off the floor especially when going up or downs stairs. Also try kicking your feet out a little as you walk so that you dont trip on you dress.

If you're walking on it, you need to get it altered, because it's not the right length for you. It's okay to lift it slightly when walking up stairs.

very carefully. It is best with heels. Keeping one hand on the front of your dress when near stairs, so you can easily lift it a few inches so you don't trip.

Just hold it up a little bit when youre walking then release it as youre sitting down. Its very simple =)

if its so long that you're walking on it, than its not the right lenght, cause that shouldn't happen...lightly lift it while goning up and down stairs, otherwise, walking normaly is how it should be
