Last night I slept for 12 hours, and woke up exhausted. A few hours later, I was still tired. Why is this?

I use sleep-aids to fall asleep.
I get to sleep really late, and wake up really late.
And I am clinically depressed.
I don't have mono though, I don't think.

Yes, I do think that's possible.

Do you fall asleep quickly ... in less than 10 minutes? That is usually a sign of sleep deprivation. How much sleep do you usually get?

Sleeping too much can also be a sign of depression. OR, of sickness, like mono. Maybe you just need a couple days to catch up, to decompress from stress or a demanding schedule.

More information is needed to get to the root of your question.

You may have also woken up in the wrong point of your REM. I've woken up in the middle of the night after 4 hours of sleep feeling wide awake, made myself go back to sleep, and then 4 hours later I was way more tired and didn't want to get out of bed! If you read into a psychology book you can find out more about REM.

Sounds like you overslept. Some reason sleeping more than 8-9 hours causes you to be fatigue all day, but I'm not sure why.

all that means is u had too much sleep the average amount of sleep for and adult is 8hrs so anything have that puts ur body into a different kinda exhastion state. because most adults survive on 4 or 5hrs sleep the max is 8hrs so anything after that makes ur body extra tired

I know what you mean. I guess undersleeping and oversleeping may affect you body in the same way in that you are tired throughout the day, and you don't have that "refreshed" feeling upon waking.

yes I heard this from many people and I say that if you sleep longer then 8 hours it makes you more sleepy. I don't know why though
