I only have the top two the others never existed. They are fully (more than fully) grown out. Just very crooked - ouch!

Getting your wisdom teeth out, I meant to say

Well my top wisdom teeth are all the way out and very crooked. When my allergies bother me, my wisdom tooth hurts a lot (not sure if it's a coincidence). The ones on the bottom are non-existent. Dentist thought I already got them removed because there aren't any there.

I removed two of my older daughter's wisdom teeth at 2:00 in the
afternoon and told her to go home and lie down until dinner time. Before
I got home, she had already left for the mall! I was rather angry,
because I figured that she'd be moaning all night long and asking me what
to do for the pain. Much to my happy surprise, she seemed just fine.
She said that she waited until the numbness started to go away and she
felt pretty good, so she decided to get up and go.
Same thing with my son. We were actually headed home from a drum lesson
and he asked if we could stop in the office to check out the sore place
in his mouth. It turned out to be an erupting wisdom tooth. He asked if
I felt like taking it out right then, so I did. (I was afraid he might
change his mind if he thought about it overnight.) His mom didn't even
know he had a wisdom tooth taken out until he had to take the gauze out
of his mouth to eat dinner. His uppers were both kind of difficult and
he had trouble healing with one of them (sinus involvement), but that
didn't last for more than 3 or 4 days.
With my third child, I took her to the oral surgeon, because the roots
were sort of close to the nerve and _I_ didn't want to be the one to
cause her any trouble if things got difficult. She had nitrous oxide and
little bit of iv sedation and had all four removed at once. I wanted to
get her right home, but she asked me to stop off at the mall before we
went home. She insisted that she was okay. Instead of going home and
lying down, she walked through the mall. Yes, she was biting on her
gauze packs (in the mall!), but still she was a lot more active than I
would recommend. She had no trouble at all healing. I think she went
out that night, too. (It was 1999, so I don't remember the details.)
I'm not saying that they are ALL like this, but there are wisdom teeth
and then there are w*!`S^D@m TEETH!!! I always say that wisdom teeth
(and root canals, by the way) are like teenagers. At least 90% are no
trouble at all, but everybody talks about the bad ones.

Personally, I got put to sleep. The main ingredient in the IV was Valium the Doc told me. I woke up in the middle of it, I could feel everything, but I was so drugged, I didn't care (I just remember the Doc getting mad because I was counting the ceiling tiles out loud while he was trying to pull my teeth).
My wife had it done both asleep and awake (two at a time) and neither one seemed to bother her.
I had bad experiences with getting teeth pulled while I was awake, so I'm pretty squimish about being awake for stuff like that.
Just get some painkillers and you'll be fine.

My wisdom teeth never came through and a few years ago my dentist decided to put me through the hell of having a dental surgeon cut them out because if they decided to come through they would come in sideways and push my other teeth out of wack. I had two done under anesthesia and have never had so much pain in my life. They were fine until the pain medication ran out then they infected, over a weekend of course, my cheek swoll up and I was a walking misery! I finally got relief when my cheek actually split open on the inside and all the infection seeped out. The next time I saw my dentist I told him to NEVER bring up the subject of my other two wisdom teeth again. That was over ten years ago and I have never had any trouble with the remaining two. Don't get them out if you have any other choice!

It's better to take them out. I waited a while and suffered unnecessarily for a long time. The pain was tolerable for me but for others it could be worse. I had my upper and lower back molars removed at the same time. After that I never had any problems. I highly recommend you take them out because if you don't your other teeth will become crooked and your wisdom teeth will become impacted.

No it's not that bad. I've had all of my wisdom teeth taken out and it was done by a regular dentist. I didn't have enough room for them and one was growing "out" towards my cheek. The only thing that's worse is how far they have your mouth open. Getting shots in the back of your mouth isn't as painful as getting them in the front/roof of your mouth. You'll probably be awake. It depends on the dentist.

Well it depends, my wisdom teeth grew out like regular teeth with no pain at all, but my brother and my sister in law had to have dental surgery to have theirs removed. My sis-in-law's started to grow crooked inside of her jaw making their way inside her sinuses which caused her mouth to swell pretty bad. While my brothers just hurt really bad. But to answer your question for some people it is bad and for some it is not. Just get an x-ray from your dentist and see.

It's definitely not pleasant. I had mine removed years ago and had a general anesthetic. That left me pretty nauseated. Plus your mouth is very sore and tender for several days until the incisions heal. It's kind of hard to chew, and food tends to get stuck in the holes which is really gross. I mostly had soup and took my painkillers and that made it tolerable.
It's sucky for several days but gets better after that. And it's probably less painful than an impacted wisdom tooth or something even worse. So, yeah, it's pretty bad. But it's something you can survive.

If you mean getting your wisdom teeth pulled then yes it's a little different than getting another tooth pulled. You have to go to an oral surgeon instead of a regular dentist so you can be put to sleep.

the pain of the tooth gettin pulled out depends on how skilled the dentist is. my mom got hers pulled out last week, and she said it didn't hurt at all :) the dentist she went 2 was very experienced with wisdom teeth. he has been pulling them for more than 10 yrs, and has learned techniques to prevent pain.

I had mine taken out.. never heard of anyone actually not getting them in???
The only thing that hurt was the shot they give you before taking them out. Also the bottom ones sometimes have exposed nerves if pulled out wrong.. which of course can hurt.
Tell em to give you a script for painkillers!!!! Who cares after awhile with them!!!
