Actually, I would think a pagan to be the anti-atheist..
Atheists believe there is no god, Pagans believe there are MANY.

Pagans, like all other religions including Christians, Muslims etc. all believe in different Gods. These beliefs require a faith in the belief because there is no proof of such Gods. Atheist do not have faith that there are Gods of any kind, because there is no proof. We believe that all these Faiths are simply superstitions to enable some humans to feel that they are protected from the unknown. Atheists have been called Devil Worshipers and many other similar things which are totally untrue and quite ridiculous because if you think it through, if you don't believe in a God then it's pretty unlikely that you would believe in a Devil. If you are seriously interested in finding out more about this, there are many good internet sites on the subject which will also explain why a real Atheist is a very thoughtful and moral person.

No, because Pagans do be live in Gods/Goddesses, just because others consider them atheists doesn't make it so.
Many people consider Druids to be pagan, but that's not so either, Druidism is more a philosophy than a religion. Long before the birth of Christ Druids practiced the healing arts, wrote music and poetry and valued our Mother Earth.
Blessed be.

Misinformed to say the least.
And very few schools would even teach that Paganism or Atheism even exists - at least in my little town of bible-thumpers. The what you don't know won't hurt you syndrome. Well I guess you could argue that would be teaching religion in schools - but people can still do a little research on their own - this is the age of (mis)information.

I believe that this is the perfect example of just how misunderstood & hated we both are. Paganism, Pantheism & Atheism are all evil according to most Theists. Personally, I find higher intellegence, education and tolerance in my brother Atheists than I do in most Christians!
What in the world could they find so bad about us peace loving tree huggers?
Your friend...the Pagan,
Blessed Be...

Depends on what definition of pagan you want to use.
If you want to use the "One who has no religion." definition from Dictionary.com, then yeah, I suppose you could consider atheists to be "pagan".
But if you use the conventional definition of "One who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially a worshiper of a polytheistic religion." then no, atheists would not be pagans, and pagans who fall under that definition definitely wouldn't be atheist.
Like so many things, it all boils down to semantics.
But in general if someone says they're pagan, we mean a pagan of the "One who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew, especially a worshiper of a polytheistic religion" sort.
Grrr. No, it's not "all pagans are atheists" - I very definitely believe in the God/dess, thank you very much.
And no, we don't "worship animals and even heavenly bodies". We honor the Divine in all things. I don't honor my oak trees "because they're oak trees", I do so because they are part of the Divine.

Paganism and Atheism are two different things. Atheists do not believe in any form of god. Pagans do. They worship animals and even heavenly bodies.

She was just misinformed or ignorant. I don't see how anyone could possibly confuse pagans with atheists since they are very different religiously.

No pagans and atheists are not the same thing. Pagans belive in ancient gods, such as Zues and Hades. Atheists do not believe in God at all. They believe that once you die, thats it, no afterlife, no Maker, no heaven, or hell. It doesnt make them bad people, its just what they beileve
