Hello friend. It is always good to see someone who is looking to establish a closer relationship with God. Reading the bible and praying are certainly two important means in growing closer to God. In addition to this it is also important to attend and contribute to your church on a regular basis. Another thing that plays a major role in your relationship to God is the type of company you keep. As christians it is very important for us to surround ourselves with positive people. People who think along the same lines as we do. One important thing that I came to realize is that I had to disassociate myself from friends and family members who lived contrary to the word of God. For example, I realized that I could no longer hang out with my womanizing friends who constantly spoke their thoughts of profanity and sex. Since becoming saved I no longer felt comfortable around them and when I start talking about Jesus, a lot them no longer felt comfortable around me. It is always important to keep yourself in good company. Another thing that I found to be useful are devotional studies. Some devotional studies are geared toward individuals, while some are designed to be studied with a partner. Two of my favorite devotionals are. The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren and Experiencing God by Henry T. Blackaby & Claude V. King. I am not sure of what type of music you enjoy but another measure I took was substituting a majority of my secular music with gospel music of the same genre. You will be surprised at how many good christian music artists that are out today. Well I hope I can be of some help. This is the Cave Man signing out and swinging his club for Jesus!!! Peace be with you and God bless.

Keep reading the Bible and praying. Get involved in a church or small group Bible study where you can fellowship and learn from other believers. Get involved in a ministry, using the gifts God has given you. Serving is a great way to grow in your relationship with the Lord...it's following Jesus' example.
"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13

You are on the right track! If you do not belong to a Bible believing church I would suggest that you locate one near you and start attending.
I would also suggest that you get into a good Bible study, where they are studying the Bible and not studying a book.
Prayer is a good thing. I would also like to suggest that you take at least one day a week where you can be alone with God and seek Him with all of your heart. This will help you grow close to the Lord!

Have you been baptized in the NAME of the Lord?
Have you received the gift of the Holy Ghost?
Read the book of Acts for more info on this, it's extremely important because the Bible says that without the Spirit of God, you are not his!
Having it will help lead you and guide you. Jesus called it the comforter. Read in the Gospels what he said about the Holy Ghost.

Keep doing what you are doing. you are on the right path. The more you read the more you want to know and understand. Pray every day as often as you can. Make it a major part of your daily routine.
Put God first and for most in your life. Turn to Him for everything you do. Give God complete control of your life. He will not let you down. Witness to others about your expiences with God. Share His word with others. Don't let the non believers critisims discourage you in your witnessing for the Lord. When you are being criticized, you are doing something right. Prasie the Lord every day.
With every passing day, you will be closer to God. I will keep you in my prayers.
God bless you
Carol.

The Lord is always close. You grow by giving up. I would suggest you go to Amazon.com and type in this book title ---- The Normal Christian Life --- it is by Watchmann Nee.
Teachings by Watchmann Nee, sermons by William Branham and Charles Finney, the Imitation of Christ by Thomas A Kempis. These four men, for teaching or preaching, stand unmatched by any who claim to hold forth the Word of God today. You will find what you need with these writers.

I think it is a matter of faith. When you trust that He will truly provide for you, will meet your needs...much like your father or caregiver did as a child, then you will grow closer. When you were little, you never doubted that you would be fed. Or have clothing. Or be comforted. When you feel that same trust in God, that He will feed you, clothe you, comfort you, then you can grow closer.
Go buy the book "God's Smuggler", by Brother Andrew. It's an amazing true story of a man who became completely dependent on God. When you see how his needs were met, it might help you take steps in your own life to putting more trust in Him.
Best Wishes!

Think about any relationship you have. How do you grow closer....you spend time getting to know that them and making yourself volunerable with them. You do the same thing with God. When you Pray, have a conversation with Him. Let him know what troubles you, what makes you happy. Let him know you want to get to know him more and more. Invite him to gowith you everywhere you go. You will be amazed at how you will feel his presence and how he will open up to you and you to him. Don't just pray a boxy form letter prayer. Just talk like you're talking to your closest friend....and he is.
When reading the bible, ask him to speak to you vividly in a special way. Ask him to let his word become life in your heart and in your spirit. He longs to hear from you in a special and personal way. He will reciprocate.

Reading His word and praying are great steps. Joining a church is a good help. Fellowshipping is an important way to feed your soul. Remember to open your heart because God can speak to you in ways you may be surprised by. Talking with someone you trust, such as a minister is a good way to get some questions answered. You might also try Billy Graham's website, it's awesome and answers alot of questions. Good grace to you and God bless!
