because the more you do for them the less they are having to do. You are taking things off their plate and that is great for them - more time to do what they want to do. They probably have no clue how much work it puts on your shoulders. Let them do some of the chores and what not so they can learn just how much work is involved in doing the laundry, cooking, the dishes, the lawn, fixing the leak under the sink, going grocery shopping, etc, etc, etc. Give them a healthy appreciation of the work you are doing and perhaps they will be more willing to help in the future.

Then again, they are kids - they might not figure all this out until they are about 28 with kids of their own. ;D

Kids tend to take what we give them as their due. They do not have a sense that they need to reciprocate. We have to clearly define to them what their responsibilities are. Every kid needs certain chores that are part of his/her contribution to the household. These chores need to escalate as they grow older so by the time they leave us they know how to clean, how to cook, how to do their own laundry, how to manage money, all those basic life skills they won't learn in school. Feel free to do less for your children and insist that they do more for themselves and for the household in which they live.

Try doing less for them and see what happens. Most kids take things for granted, so ignoring them may make them wake up and wonder what is going on (after a lil bit), they may then come to you and ask whats wrong.

put those little crumb snatchers on a bread and water diet and sentence them to 10 years hard labor. they will comply. LOL

I'm kidding. that's what kids do. I know I was an ungrateful brat (probably still am)

there seems to be a trend among today's parents that they must chauffer their kids everywhere and must be a full time worker for them, kids should be at home working (chores) more than being chauffered around.

I guess the more they have the stuff, the more they get occupied with it and get so worked up with it they don't realize how important life is.
