Aerobic organisms require oxygen to create energy via respiration, in the form of energy-rich molecules such as glucose.in high altitudes where oxygen is low, Sleeping becomes very difficult, digesting food is impossible (the body shuts the digestive system down), and hosts of other problems manifest without additional oxygen .no human body can do without oxygen. Staying longer than necessary will result in deterioration of body functions, loss of consciousness, and, ultimately, death.

Oxygen accepts an electron at the end of an essential chemical chain reaction inside the cell. This chain reaction creates energy for all the functions in the body, but without the oxygen molecule to accept the electrons the chain reaction would cease to function. That is what I remember from studying it in school a long time ago. You could find the details on the web if you search and read carefully.

pure oxygen could actually be harmful, we also need the nitrogen and other contents that are in the air.

oxygen also aids in the transportation of nutrients throughout the body.

Due to the composition of organic life on this planet, organisms such as ourselves require aerobic respiration to sustain processes at the cellular level.
