Suffocating a tic is the only way to have it back out of u'r dog. U can try to pull it out w/ tweezers, but there is a 50/50 chance u'll leave the head inside. This can cause an infection in which u'd need to take u'r dog to the vet. Using cooking oil is what my mom did when we got ticks from playing in the woods. U would have to put it on a piece of cotton and hold it on the tick for a while. This should cause the tick to back out. If not, call u'r vet and have them suggest a good way of removing the tick. Also, make sure u use a flea and tick product from now on if u'r pup is old enough. Please get this product from the vet. The o/c products really do not work. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

First thing to look for is if the butt of the tick has a white dot or markings. If it does, you have a deer tick that are known to pass on Lyme disease. You should see a vet. If there are no markings, (usually there are no markings) you can literally, just pull it out with your hands/fingers. Trust me, it doesnt' hurt the dog because it doesn't hurt humans when you pull ticks off them. If you want to be completely sanitary, get some gloves, get a needle, warm the needle in a flame, pinch the back of the ticks back or butt, grab some tweasers and remove the tick. Basically, your removing the tick by hand anyway. The vet will tell you the same thing unless you have deer ticks in your area which, unless you live near woods where there are deer there regularly, you don't.

Use tweezers. It's the safest and most sanitary. Make sure to put the head of the tweezers right at the part where the tic is on the skin. You can use a bit of rubbing alcohol to clean the spot, but do not use peroxide.

My dogs get em all the time from being in the bushes. Good luck.

Use latex exam gloves to examine your pet for ticks. Examine using good lighting.
Check your pet daily for ticks by thoroughly feeling for any lumps under the hair. Pay close attention to ears, around face, eyes, legs, and belly.
Ticks will range in size from the size of a sesame seed to the size of a fingernail (engorged).
When is tick is found embedded in the skin, use a fine pointed tweezers at the point of attachment, and grasp firmly. Remember to wear latex gloves when doing this.
Using slow, steady, and firm traction, pull the tick straight out from the skin.
Cleanse the skin with mild soap and water.
If part of the tick breaks off, you can try to remove it as you would a splinter, but it is probably best to leave it alone. The body will 'eject' it in time.
Place the tick in a jar of alcohol, noting the date, in case of future illness. Tick identification and location of tick infestation will be important.

Tips:
Do NOT use a match or caustic materials to try to smother the tick or get the tick to 'back out'. This doesn't work, and may be causing the tick to regurgitate more saliva (and potential pathogens) into the skin.
Talk to your vet about effective tick control (spray, powder, spot-on, or collar) for your pet.
Check pet daily, especially in the spring when ticks are most common

1. Soak a paper towel in rubbing alcohol and hold it against the tick for at least 30 seconds. This will kill it so that it doesn't leave it's head in the dog's skin, which would cause infection

2. Use tweezers to remove the tick and place it in a cup of rubbing alcohol (just to make sure it's dead)

That's all!

Light a match, blow it out, and stick the hot match head to the back of the tick.

Rub fingernail polish remover on the tick with a q-tip.

Pack the area with face cream and leave it on there for 15-20 minutes.

Ticks are spiders. Spiders breathe though holes in the sides of their bodies. A drop of baby oil on them will kill them. That is why most bug sprays are oily.
