Check out community colleges in your area. They usually offer the class. ROP also offers it in my area.

You can definitely take it with a GED. Actually I don't think that there are restrictions about taking the class other than possibly some health issues and age. You can also take the National Registry exam but you will need to check with your local certifying agency if they have any other requirements. I'm in California and having a GED does not exclude you. Felony convictions will.

It's interesting but it is hard work for little pay. Most people don't stay as EMT-B but rather go on to become a paramedic or firefighter.

EDIT:
The community college classes in my area offer the class at different times. Mine was Saturday from 8 am - 5pm. Other classes were Tuesday/Thursday 8 am - noon and 5pm - 9pm. I recommend taking it over a longer period instead of cramming it in to a few weeks because you will have more time to practice your skills and to remember the material.

I have a friend who just went through training for EMTs. In her state, it involved full-time EMT school for 6 weeks, followed by a state exam. This may differ from state-to-state. Try doing a Google search for "EMT training" and the name of your state (California, e.g.) and see if any listings come up.

You only need a high school diploma or your GED for this -- you don't need to go to college.

A G.E.D. is sufficient. Just take courses at a junior or 2-year college.
