And going to church doesn't make you a christian any more than standing in a stable makes you a horse. Why do people always judge a group by it's weakest link?

A Christian is a follower of Jesus, whom they regard as the Christ. Christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God, who lived a life befitting that of the creator of the universe, free of sin, and at the end of his earthly life was crucified, and then on the third day after death rose from the dead, to give the message to his followers. This belief is true of all Christian groups.

When people are not associated with a specific group and either feel guilty for not being or truly dislike the platform of the group it is human nature to criticize wherever possible. Also, the weakest links in any organization always seem to be the most visible e.g. Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, etc.

People have always judged others, no matter what the issue, this way. That is why we must all strive to be the best that we can, and have faith in this. Don't let anther's opinion of the group harden your heart, or they win!

Why don't people get this idea? Because Christians have widely varying ideas about how to tell when someone is a "real Christian," and I personally don't think it's anyone's place to tell who is and who is not this or that.

People who fail to get this idea are shortcutting their thinking, and coming dangerously close to fundamentalism.

This is an example of the "No true Scottsman..." fallacy.

Look it up if you haven't heard of it.
